Book Reviews of CathedralBook Review: A Bit Of A Struggle Through Summary: 3 Stars
If you can keep up with the descriptive details in this one, then you may really like it. This is nothing like some of Demille's other compelling novels (Plum Island, Lion's Game, Gold Coast) - in the sense that the focus seems to be on describing the cathedral in endless detail(which I gave up trying to keep up with). It was an interesting story, but I was anxious to get through it to start on his next book - I had to push through.
Book Review: Compelling Drama! Summary: 4 Stars
Nelson DeMille is one of my favorite authors, and he did not disappoint with this thriller. Unlike many authors, DeMille is not a formulaic writer and each book covers a diverse topic requiring intense research. His acumen for finely drawn characters and breath-holding suspense are evident in Cathedral. Although not as good as Charm School or Word of Honor, still this is worth reading. Keep 'em coming Nelson.
Book Review: Terrific high-paced story! Smart, funny, and possible... Summary: 5 Stars
The basic plot grabbed my attention: St. Patrick's Cathredal is taken over by a renegade off-shoot of the IRA on St. Patrick's Day. Extremely well written. Superb detail of the terrorist operations and the think-tank actions of the NYPD SWAT. The author combines all of the elements of a great action drama. I look forward to his other works. I would love to see this as a movie...
Book Review: Gripping! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm admittedly a diehard DeMille fan, but even if I weren't, CATHEDRAL would have made me one. The detail on the Cathedral was terrific, but the characters were positively gripping. As a writer, you read critically, so it's a special treat to get so involved in the story that you forget to read it as a writer. Ten pages in, I forgot even trying to analyze. This one is special.
Book Review: Cethedral Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great book. Not of DeMille's best but definately an outstanding book. Its about an IRA group who takes over the St Patricks Cathedral during a parade in New York. A New York city cop (Burke) and a negotiater (Schroder) negotiate for the lives of many innocent people and the famous cathedral. There are MANY suprises in the book that gives it a great twist.
