Book Review: Beautiful cakes without the intimidation

I am new to baking and this book has completely inspired me. It is packed with so much information, that even I feel confident enough to make one of the beautiful designs featured in this book. There are plenty of pictures to walk you through the process and to unlock your own creativity. Another great thing about this book are the matching cupcakes. Those will come in handy for times when I'm feeling creative but do not have time to make an entire cake. I'm looking forward to purchasing more of Smith's books.Book Review: Beautiful Book, Great Ideas!

From geometric to whimsical to out and out gorgeous, the cakes in the book are a great inspiration to decorators at all levels. The recipes are British, but the decorating ideas are universal and the work is beautifully precise and clean. The step-by-step instructions are really well photographed and easy to follow. I just with the book were longer! I want more!Book Review: Not the best!

The best cake in the book is on the cover - but it isn't in the actual book!!
The designs of the other cakes are either plain or very eccentric with wire swirls etc coming out of them.
I wouldn't pay alot for this book - try to have a look inside one before purchasing.

I loved the book. The ideas are very good and the details on how to make the cakes are very well explained and with nice photos. Lindy Smith is a very creative cake designer indeed.
Taking the opportunity, "look inside the book" approach assures me that the book will meet my expectation.

This book is well written and easy to follow. I was expecting a book with all styles of cakes. These cakes only had the fondant instructions. Also disappointed because the cake recipes are all for girl cakes. I have 3 boys so this book is basically useless when baking a cake for a boy.
