Book Review: Courtesy of Teens Read Too
Summary: 4 Stars

CHASING LINCOLN'S KILLER is a third-person narrative about the events that happened on that fateful night of April 14, 1865.

The story follows John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of President Abraham Lincoln, through his planning and committing of the murder and then through his flight from Washington, D.C,. to safety in the south.

With this book, the reader learns of both Booth's struggles and of the lucky breaks he received in the actual action of killing the beloved President of the United States. The reader also learns of events that took place following the assassination.

James Swanson writes an intriguing non-fiction story. In the Note to the Reader, the author states that every event in the book is factual and that all of the quotes are taken from letters, manuscripts, newspapers, and other sources. No quote is produced by the author.

For anyone wanting to know the facts about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, this book is exactly what is needed. For teenagers, CHASING LINCOLN'S KILLER is more helpful and interesting than anything your history textbook could tell you about James Wilkes Booth and his successful assassination of President Lincoln.

Book Review: An Interesting Historical Adaptation For Young Adults
Summary: 4 Stars

As we celebrate Lincoln's 200th birthday, we reflect upon how his life ended. Lincoln's assassination and the 12-day manhunt that followed have become historical mythology. Few people know little beyond the bare details of what happened on April 14, 1865 and beyond. Now readers have the opportunity to relive in detail one of our country's most infamous crimes. It's far from the dry and dusty history books you find in many classrooms, but still with plenty of historical fact left in.

Packed with plenty of actual dialogue, photographs, newspapers, and pamphlets from the period, the story maintains a note of authenticity while still reading more like a novel. Despite a few plot disconnections, teens will find this a fast-paced and suspenseful read, one that's perfect for reluctant historical readers. A young adult adaptation of Swanson New York Times Bestseller, Chasing Lincoln's Killer is sure to find new life with its new audience.

Book Review: The Chase Is Afoot!
Summary: 5 Stars

James L. Swanson's book is well written. It is, simply, an easier-to-read version of his bestseller "Manhunt". It tells of the assassination, of course, but devotes much of the book to Booth's escape. It is virtually a day-by-day account of not only Booth's escape but the excitement that was going on in Washington to hunt for Lincoln's killer and bring him to justice. I don't think I'm out of line stating that this book, as well as Swanson's other book, is a thriller. We know how Booth escaped and was killed, but what happened in between April 14 and April 26, 1865, is not so well known. Swanson does an excellent job of taking us along as Booth is pursued and captured. I recommend this for young people and novices of the Lincoln assassination. Well worth the money, and is an Amazon recommended work.

Book Review: Great action and mystery
Summary: 4 Stars

Another great read about our famous 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. Well, it's less about Lincoln, and more about his killer, the infamous John Wilkes Booth. Booth was a star in his day, having been in many big stage productions. He was a name well known throughout the east coast and especially in Washington D.C. Swanson, the author, tells his story in a very readable fashion. It explains why Booth did it, and follows him and his co-conspirators try to escape the lawmen and army hunting them. You will also learn about the other attempted assassinations that night and how they were able to fight off or avoid the murderers.
Very compelling true story for fans of action, mystery, and drama

Book Review: Little thriller
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great little thriller. It is a fun and interesting read about the time of Lincoln's murder. It included many events and background I never realized and that was not taught in school. Fast and easy to read and a real page turner. Great pictures too! You get the feel of the times and events of that era. It gave me an eerie feel for present time and events and a reminder that hatred has a negative power of destruction that can change history. Worth every minute of reading!
