Book Reviews of Christmas in New York: A Pop-Up BookBook Review: Spectacular! Summary: 5 Stars
I love New York, especially at Christmas time. Every year we celebrate an early Christmas with our son (a working actor who isn't always able to come home for the holidays) in New York.
Chuck Fischer has created a work of art with his interactive pop-up book Christmas in New York. Fischer is New York City artist. He has designed gift-wrap for Caspari, china for Lenox and wallpapers and fabrics for Brunschwig & Files and F. Schumacher and Co. Many of his designs are housed in the Cooper-Hewitt Museum. He has authored two other pop-up books (The White House and Great American Houses and Gardens).
For all the people who love the traditions of the Rockettes and Radio City Music Hall, the lighting of the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, the Nutcracker, shopping on Fifth Avenue, and the lights of Times Square, this three-dimensional art book is the perfect gift. The individual pop-up scenes include brief histories, anecdotes and interesting facts in the removable booklets and pullouts.
When I opened this book I know my eyes grew wide and a broad smile covered my face. It is spectacular! It is delightful! It is delectable! It brings tears of joy to my eyes, as it's reminiscent of the New York traditions my son and I share yearly. I can't think of a more perfect gift for keeping and making the wonderful memories of Christmas in New York.
Armchair Interviews says: Christmas in New York must be seen to be believed. It's that spectacular!
Book Review: Christmas in New York Pop up book Summary: 5 Stars
Nice...not for a young child who could tear the pop up pieces while trying to manipulate them but good for a child who is older and can be very careful or actually it is more for the adult who would just like an interesting and different coffee table book around the holiday times. Perhaps better said it is good for the person who is able to appreciate it for a little piece of art with a lot of interesting factual information recorded and hidden away in little places such as side panels. High quality.
Also good for the New York lover who would like to have a little of it home at Christmas. Bought it for my sister who used to lived there and she loved it. I thought the pop up nature of it might also be a good bridge between she and my daughter to converse about.
Can't remember how many pop up pages it had, probably 5 or 6?
Book Review: Christmas in New York: A Pop-Up Book Summary: 5 Stars
One of my favorite books to look at each year as the holiday season approaches. Chuck Fischer has done an excellent job of capturing the very essence of Christmas in New York in pictures, colors, favorite events.
It's an interactive book that is sure to please children and adults alike. Whether you've been to New York for the holidays or have seen them via sattelite and dream of going, this book takes you there again and again.
I've given it often as a gift and it has become one of the most treasured traditions of those that received it. Everyone just loves it. I recently gave it to a friend who was going to New York for a girl's weekend with her sisters. She loved it so much, she gave them each a copy as a rememberance of the trip.
Book Review: Not just a "holiday," but Christmas! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this book as a sort of "virtual trip" to begin to fulfill my dream of celebrating Christmas in New York one day. The illustrations are beautiful and it is interesting to learn the history behind the great city's Christmas traditions. It seems that every time I open the book there are new surprises awaiting me. This book is a keepsake to enjoy for years to come. My other dream for Christmas one day is London, England. Mr. Fischer, are there any plans for a "Christmas in London" or even a "Christmas in Germany" or Europe? If so, I just "can't wait to open" them! Thank you for the sweet gift of imagination, color, and beauty in a book.
Book Review: Great Pop-up about NYC Christmas History Summary: 4 Stars
My Best Friend and I have a Christmas Tradition where we buy each other Children's Christmas books as gifts... I chose this one because she recently took a vacation to NYC. I bought it from Amazon without being able to look at the inside and was suprised and a little disappointed to find that it was more historical and less story-ish. But the book is great and the story behind the Traditional NYC Christmas icons is told. I would recommend this book but remember that it is not a Story book more of a history book.
