I am very happy that I finally FINALLY am kind of disgusted by the quality of Ringo's work here. I was seriously wondering if I had a brain tumor or was undergoing the early stages of Alzheimer's. I really truly enjoyed listening and reading earlier titles in this series. It really bothered me because I could tell that the writing was god awful, the story was a rehash of others, the characters were goofy, but for some reason they all clicked for me and I found myself enjoying the books.
So its to my great relief that I can say, Claws that Catch really really sucks. Basically Ringo and Taylor are telling the same story here as the first two stories. The characters are becoming huge two dimensional parodies of themselves. The limited examination of them occurred mostly in the first story.
This time the story is very very similar to the the last one in this series. The writing either got a lot more disjointed and convoluted, or I got tired of concentrating on figuring it out. This is a slap dash effort. The writers obviously were not too interested in this one and were getting it out there to make a few bucks off the successes of the earlier works.
Skip this one, even if you enjoyed earlier installments of this series like i did.
Summary of Claws That Catch (Looking Glass, Book 4)
It's Not Over Til The Skinny Lady Sings . . .Working off of a piece of intelligence from our alien allies, the Vorpal Blade is dispatched to investigate rumors of an ancient and powerful civilization that may have been the creators of the ?black box? that drives humanity's only space ship. Any remnant technology would be nice but what the Blade finds is much more than they bargained for. Worse, the ship is infested by an alien species of scorpion-like arachnoids that has the potential to wipe out a world. Worst of all, instead of being Astrogator, Captain William Weaver is now the XO and he is not getting along with the new commander. And the new commander does not get along with Weaver, the ship's female savant-linguist or most of the rest of the original crew. And what is that weird noise the ship makes every time it's in hard maneuvers?
Leave it to the oddball geniuses of the Blade to sort it all out. And the Dreen are not going to like the answers.
