Book Reviews of Confessions of a Shopaholic (Shopaholic Series)

Book Review: Becky is no Bridget
Summary: 3 Stars

I read all the amazing reviews of this book and decided to try it out. I was not impressed. The writing was good for a fluffy chick lit book, but the main character was totally ridiculous. If I knew Becky Bloomwood, I'm certain I would hate her. Her idiotic thought processes are totally unbelievable and unrealistic. I was much more able to relate to and laugh with Bridget Jones. With this book I kept finding myself exasperated, wishing this girl would just get a clue. I enjoy reading chick lit books as well as real literature, and I think I have appropriate expectations going into each book, depending on the genre (meaning I wasn't expecting this to be Jane Eyre or anything). This one just didn't measure up to me. It's a fun little beach read, but I was not bowled over.

Book Review: Dreadfully boring
Summary: 1 Stars

I found this book terribly dull and repetitive. After 100 pages of the "heroine" trying to convince herself that every 50 pounds (about $100) spent on an unnecessary item is money well spent, I couldn't stomach any more. I didn't find her rationalizations and lying amusing, just annoying. She is materialistic and quite an airhead, and I couldn't give a darn about her. I was looking forward to a light summer read, but in this one, nothing much ever seems to happen, besides her spending money, detailing what she's spent it on, and vacillating between chastising herself for it or rationalizing it. The other people she interacts with seem to matter little to her, and it makes it hard for the reader to care, either. I am surprised so many people enjoyed this book so much!

Book Review: You will have so much fun...
Summary: 5 Stars

Confessions of a Shopaholic is such a funny book! I was sucked into this book because I love to shop and the more expensive and rare an item is the more I love it...so I loved the shopping references, the romance, and the pure sense that she is human in her feelings and actions. I was soaked in this book and laughed out loud at many parts, most of the time being so entranced in the book, that I didn't realize I was laughing until someone kindly let me know. I can't wait to start the second book and see where Becky ends up in her shopping travels. If you are looking for a fun and lighthearted book this book is an excellent read! I recommend it purely for the way you will be able to become Becky as you read. Check this book out!

Book Review: Great Book to Read
Summary: 5 Stars

After much consideration of everyone's reviews and obsession, I decided to read the Shopaholic Series. This first book was great. It was easy to read and I found it to be very enjoyable so much that I refered this book to a friend. I haven't read the Bridgette Jones' Diary so I can't comment if it's a total rip off of it, which I read from another review. Quite honestly, I found the characters to be very relateable and easy to remember. Becky was someone that everyone could relate to. She was very human and I enjoyed seeing how she got herself in and out of trouble. After reading this book, I was an instant fan of Sophie Kinesella. I did read the second book of the series and you'll have to see what I thought about that.

Book Review: Could NOT put it down
Summary: 5 Stars

And so, as I was opening up my birthday presents this year, I found a wonderful set of books. The shopaholics. "Because you like to shop, Sakura*" my friends had sad. And I started reading, and reading, AND READING. Homework was on hold and I spent the day reading this book of pure genius. I loved it. Becky Bloomwood is funny and quirky. Despite her maxxed out credit cards and constant naive choices, Becky is intelligent, which makes this story all the more appealing. I can't stand it when women are portrayed as bubble-headed people who can't stand on their own two feet. But Becky is not one of those people. And I love Kinsella for not making her like that. Happy Reading folks. Enjoy!
