Book Reviews of Consider PhlebasBook Review: Poor in comparison to his other work Summary: 2 Stars
Iain Banks, with or without the M, is one of my favorite authors, but this is certainly not one of his best works. Much of it is slow moving and aimless. It is a big book, about five times the size of the Wasp Factory, but contains fewer ideas and could have been drastically edited without losing much.
Book Review: Good but not the best Summary: 4 Stars
Very good, but I didn't like it as much as Excission and The Player of Games. I like a tight book and Phlebas had a great opening and a great close, but it slowed down a bit in the middle. Interesting to have an anti-culture main character.
Book Review: One Weapon! Summary: 5 Stars
A writer who can come up with the best weapon ever - CAM. That's all you need to know. Banks is a branch of the godhead. You read him, and, if you are worthy, comprehend some of what he is teaching. Class dismissed.
Book Review: A good intro to the Culture series Summary: 4 Stars
It certainly is the first of the series, and you can tell both at the style and story. It is worth reading, especially if you have read other books on the culture or you are planing to.
Book Review: Good Read Summary: 5 Stars
This is the beginnings of great scifi series. I will recommend this book to anyone who likes the space opera scifi. It was an interesting story, and made me want more when it was done.
