Book Reviews of Cost: A NovelBook Review: Roxana Robinson gets it just right Summary: 5 Stars
This details of what a family goes through when dealing with addiction are expressed with incredible accuracy in this compelling story. COST is a important contribution to understanding the horrible disease of drug addiction and its effects. It is a story of loss on so many levels, but redemption as well - beautifully done.
Book Review: Cliche Summary: 2 Stars
I just couldn't wrap my head around this novel about a family dealing with addiction. I had the most difficulty with the lengthy and flowery metaphors which seemed forced and overdone. Of course this is a matter of personal preference - I like my language and my metaphors clean and straight and not a paragraph long.
Book Review: Haunting and gorgeous Summary: 5 Stars
Robinson is a brilliant writer, and here, in Cost, she delves into the unthinkable: a family dealing with a son's drug addiction. Beautifully written--and at times harrowing to read because of the pitch-perfect details about addiction-- Cost is really a stunning achievement that is both literate and page-turning.
Book Review: Very disappointed Summary: 2 Stars
Loved the chapter I read online. Just hugely disappointed when I read the book and can't understand why everyone is so excited about it. It is filled with false starts and stupid mistakes you don't know weather to kick the author for or the characters.
Book Review: Great book. Summary: 5 Stars
I liked the description of the impact of one addicted individual on the whole family dynamics. It's an excellent account of the pain and turmoil everyone goes through. I recommend this book highly.
