Book Reviews of Cowboy and OctopusBook Review: Best kids (and adults?) book ever! Summary: 5 Stars
My 3-year old daughter and I love this book. Out of the hundreds of books we've read together this is our favorite! From the Three Stooges reference, "When I nod my head, you hit it." to the lettuce knock-knock joke this book couldn't be more strange. There is also something oddly enticing about a meal that revolves around baked beans, an octopus dressed as the tooth fairy and a cowboy who can't get a see-saw to work.
In the end it's about two characters getting to know one another and their adventures.
Book Review: Another winner from Jon and Lane Summary: 5 Stars
The book is totally off-the-wall, the art is somewhat Roy-Lichtensteinesque, the text is wacky (but the stories have a moral), my son loved it from the age of 18 months to now (26 months), and has no sign of getting tired of it (despite getting tired of plenty of books in the meantime). Jon Szieszka seems to be a prolific author of kid's book (many with Lane Smith, some without), some surreal (like this one) some pretty standard. All good.
Book Review: A witty and touching take on an unlikely friendship Summary: 5 Stars
LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. I'll read anything by this author, but this group of seven little stories is a treasure. Each story indirectly (and in a most definitely non-preachy way) teaches something about true friendship. And, the humor appeals to both kids and parents alike. We're still cracking up about the octopus in a tooth fairy costume, and cowboy's right--a lettuce knocking on a door IS pretty dang funny.
Book Review: Hilarious Summary: 5 Stars
I love Jon Scieszka's books--we have most of them on my kids' book shelf--but this one is by far my favorite. I think it is the perfect mixture of simplicity, good underlying messeges about friendship, and humor that an adult can appreciate. My daughter loves it too. Lane Smith's illustrations are also fun and unique. Good job, Jon and Lane! Keep them coming!
Book Review: Imaginative and Funny Summary: 5 Stars
My son and I came across this book in the bookstore. We sat down to read it and had a great time in doing so. We both liked it and thought it was great, in a different sort of way. There are some very funny parts that made both of us laugh, a lot. My son is 9, yet I would recommend for children between 4 and 12.
