Book Review: Love/Hate Relationship With Anne Rice
Summary: 2 Stars

The book "Cry To Heaven" I thought was beautifully set-up with stylistic prose and tons of eroticsm. I just love how Anne Rice adds a touch of sexuality to everything she writes; but I must admit, I could care less for her plots. "Cry To Heaven" lagged on so much and was sooooooo pointless, by the time I reached the end of the book, I felt like crying to heaven myself (in frustration). I can say the same for the other three novels I've read: "Interview With The Vampire", "The Vampire Lestat" & "The Witching Hour". Completely ... foolish; and you ask why I continue to read her books? Because she is the only author I know who does not repress sexuality in all it's glory. As for those of you who felt uncomfortable about the book's countless homoeroticsm, I only have one thing to say: Get over it!...

Book Review: Absolutely beautiful, captivating, emotional
Summary: 5 Stars

I had never read any of Anne Rice's books before. When I picked this book up, I didn't know what to expect. I became so engrossed in this novel and it became and will always be one of my all-time favorite books. I didn't want it to end! Anne Rice did some wonderful research for the story. The character development is fabulous and her description of everything brings the reader into the book and feels what the characters feel, sees what the characters see. I love this book. I think people that call this a "homosexual" book are wrong. It is not about gay people, it is about humans and real emotions, real sexuality, and the need to be loved. The book is very realistic for the era and it is very historically accurate. The book made me want to learn more about the castrati.

Book Review: Guess what? No vampires
Summary: 5 Stars

Anne Rice's historically accurate novel, Cry to Heaven, is set in Rome during an era when a papal ban prohibited women from performing on stage. The inevitable substitute, men who were capable of singing soprano roles in opera, were the castrati, castrated boys whose voices would never change to that of men.
In Rice's novel, we are privy to the life, study, and hard work of the castrato student: vocal exercises, music lessons, technical exercises, and the proper wearing of the black tunic with the red sash and the black ribbon at the neck which identified them as castrati - and finally, the stage performance.
Ann Rice is a complex, complicated, multi-talented writer with a wide range of talents and interests. This one, I believe, is unique.

Book Review: A very well-written story.
Summary: 4 Stars

This was the first book of her's that I've ever read, and it has led me to her others. I liked it in particular because of the content and how it was written. To me, it talks of how 2 lives(Tonio Treschi, Guido Maffeo) are given great gifts, and how they collide together and somewhat fall apart. How the taste of revenge is fulfilled, and hunger for pleasure is somewhat unbearable. Very descriptive in telling how hard they strive to fulfill their goals and come to achieve them, and the rewards that they bring. The best part is that it catches you by surprise when you least expect it, and I couldn't put it down. : ) It was a great book, for those reasons and more.

Book Review: Music to my ears
Summary: 5 Stars

I literally couldn't put this book down it was so good. Cry to Heaven is a richly told story of the complexity of men who are ostracized for being 'half-men'. In a world filled with as much corrupt The struggles and sucesses of Tonio and Guido are made to be both kneenly felt and celebrated. Drama and angst flows through each page of the book. Betrayal, revenge, loss, love, triumph, and sadness are only some of the human emotions that bring it to life. Tonio was easily my favorite character because of his sweetness and bravery. If you find love between men offensive I wouln't recommend Cry to Heaven but if it is not an issue then reading this book is a must.
