Book Reviews of Cry to HeavenBook Review: Heavenly! Summary: 5 Stars
This is without a doubt Anne Rice's best-ever book. What a world she re-creates here with her shimmering prose style and impeccable historical research. No-holds-barred, for sure. The book's introduction, which characterizes this enthralling story as depicting "the decadence beneath the shimmering surface of Venice," describes the novel eloquently.
"Cry to Heaven" opens up the world of 18th-century Venetian opera in a way that no other book of its kind has done. It is an enduring classic that should be on the bookshelf of any student or scholar of baroque music.

Book Review: Beautiful, Saddening, yet joyful in its own. Summary: 5 Stars
In this atypical book by Ms. rice, she tells the tale of two half men. Half because they do not have what is necessary to procreate, yet more human in their suffering adn self-torment. Guido, sold into the wold of the castrati opera singers, has a voice that would make the angels cry. fallen at the age of 18 by the tragic loos of his voice, he finds himself searching for another to sing for him. In this he finds Tonio, a boy forced into the world of the castrati by treachery and jealousy. One can easily lose themselves in the story that will make you laugh, cry, and make you sing the praises for this very excellent book.
Book Review: Highly Enjoyable Summary: 4 Stars
Cry to Heaven, in typical Rice fashion, mesmerizes the reader with lavish prose. You come to feel for Tonio and Guido as the tale progresses; Anne Rice masterfully develops her characters. While not particularly profound, this story touches the heart on many levels: the roles of masculine and feminine, the necessity of revenge, the possibility of love and friendship existing in a single relationship, all these things are explored against a beautiful backdrop of Italian culture and countryside. Anyone who wishes to enter the enchanting world (which only Rice can create) should read this fine book.
Book Review: Definately one of the best books ever written ... Summary: 5 Stars
This book totally blew me away. I picked this book up idly off a friend's bookshelf and within the first page was unable to put it down until I finished the entire book. She weaves a story so powerfully tight, so enthralling that you fall in love with the characters. A knife slices into your heart... and each decision the characters make twists that knife until she finally deigns to grant your freedom with the close of the book. When I finished this book, I actually shed tears because I could not know these characters beyond the pages of this book. Cry to Heaven is a MUST HAVE!
Book Review: Well written, but at times very disturbing. Summary: 2 Stars
I would have really liked Cry to Heaven if the "love" scene with Tonio and that girl wasn't in the book. It was really frightening the way he forced her into bed with him, and it definately made me dislike the character. And the fact that she forgives him so quickly as if he didn't do anything wrong was really unrealistic; sickening even. I'm surprised Christina or whatever her name was wasn't totally psychologically damaged after what he did to her. I noticed a lot of Anne Rice's books contain a lot of stuff. Maybe she should rethink doing scenes like that in her future books.
