Book Reviews of Cry to Heaven

Book Review: Good, but Not as Good as Expected
Summary: 4 Stars

Anne Rice adapted a theme that has been examined before and made fresh, but darker. If you like Anne Rice, you will like this book. The only problem I had with it was that the ending is so strongly foreshadowed as to be very predictable. Kind of a let-down for me since Anne Rice usualy keeps me in suspense until the very end and leaves me wanting more. However, even if the conclusion is easy to predict (trust me, it is), the actual details of the final encounter between the protagonist and antagonist are still shocking and the description is rich and rewarding. Just don't expect to be surprised.

Book Review: HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL
Summary: 5 Stars

Anne Rice wrote a novel incorporating much history-like usual. This novel, a haunting portrait of the castrati-men who had been castrated before puberty to preserve their high voices to sing, and entertain.
I cannot explain how beautifully written this novel is. And how tragic this haunting haunting story is. The novel is filled with rich descriptions, and so much history of the castrati.
I had never heard of the castrati before this novel, but after reading, I was drawn to learn more about the history of the tragic singers.
Anne Rice entertains and educates....like always.

Book Review: Too many words
Summary: 2 Stars

I like Anne Rice's writing. She's a master of plot and description, but in this case she over-wrote, filling page after page with unnecessary words. The relationship between the main character, Tonio, and Carlo didn't ring true. Carlo's motivation and actions weren't explained well enough to be understood by the reader. The numerous graphic sex scenes were overdone, and the character Christina was not developed as she should have been. Although the ending was somewhat satisfying, the reader is left hanging, with the feeling that serious problems lay ahead. All in all, a disappointment.

Book Review: This is a great book
Summary: 5 Stars

I first bought this book a few years ago and I tried to read it then, but I just couldn't. I was going through a dark time in my life and the book just brought me down further.

I picked it up again last year, and I LOVED it! It was especially vivid, since I've visited Venice and I could really see the images that Anne "paints" in this book.

It is truly a wonderful book. It does get dark toward the middle, but there is a wonderful light at the end of that tunnel. Some of the images in this book will be with me forever.

One of Anne Rice's best!

Book Review: Read this book and let yourself live and breath the music.
Summary: 5 Stars

In the wonderful world of Marc Antiono Trechi it's all balls and glamor untill he makes a startling dicorvery that will change his life forever. Some things are made to be left alone. But after and unexpected tragety he is forced to leave his easy life behind and become a man. When his father(brother) Carlo pulls a horrable plan on Tonio he is determined to keep Tonio away from his life. Tonio will not let that happen... This book compleatly spellbinded me and I would be terrably annoyed and shocked if someone told me that they did not enjoy this book.
