Book Reviews of Cthulhu 2000

Book Review: Cthulhu 2000 : A Lovecraftian Anthology - Rocks!
Summary: 4 Stars

Cthulhu 2000: A Lovecraftian Anthology was a fascinating book and fun to read. It's obvious that all things "Cthulhu" (where science fiction meets the occult), is now a genre unto itself. My personal favorite is The Barrens by F. Paul Wilson: "In a tangled wilderness, unearthly lights lead the way to a world no human was meant to see." After reading The Trail of Cthulhu by August Derleth I HAD to read all HPL and have since been hooked. If you like tales of Cthulhu and his minions, do checkout a fun satrical book, "Resume with Monsters" by William Browning Spencer.

Book Review: Cthulhu 2000
Summary: 3 Stars

If you are going to buy this book because you think the stories even come close to Lovercraft, do not buy this book! The stories in this book are so boring and they just captialize on all of Lovecraft's idea's. None of them have the werid, horrorific mood that Lovecraft usually sets in his stories. Some of them shouldn't even be called stories, just "book fillers". Overall I was very disappointed with this book because I thought the stories were good, but weren't. For everybody else, if you like Lovecraft, then stick to the master's tales, no offshoots.

Book Review: A very nice HPL anthology
Summary: 4 Stars

Recently I have beed disappointed by a number of HPL-inspired anthologies. This is an exception. Although I have read a few of the selections in other anthologies, this is a fine collection of Lovecraftian works. "The Barrens" is one of the finer works within the covers and the work at large is assembled with a fine eye towards what HPL would have considered appropriate sequels. Any collector of Cthuluesque lit will find Cthulu 200 a fine read.

Book Review: Loved Cthulhu!
Summary: 4 Stars

Cthulhu 2000 is an excellent compilation of stories related to the works of H.P. Lovecraft. My Favorite is the "Barrens" by F.Paul Wilson. Cthulhu, a totally evil entity from beyond space and time has fascinated the imaginations of many people and will continue to do so in this contemporary send-up. All things Cthulhu should be a genre unto itself!

Book Review: attempts collection
Summary: 2 Stars

this collection contains some stories that are almost good (wolfe, copper, wilson, campbell) but in the end are not good enough. i like good pulp. it's not here. some of the stories are really strangely uninteresting. kind of author-is-trying-to-be-inventive, and creates a story i am not impressed by.
