Book Reviews of D'Aulaires' Book of Greek MythsBook Review: Fun way to introduce your children to mythology. Summary: 4 Stars
This is one of the first books of Greek mythology I read. Reading other reviews I do have to agree that some material was poorly researched...or maybe it wasn't. I think some of the tales might have been changed to grab the attention of the focus audience which is children. The pictures are ever present through the pages, while not cutting corners on words or information. Some pictures even assist in understanding the tales. One picture in particular shows the geneology of the gods in a sort of tree like design. Fun book. I recommend it.
Book Review: A Wonderful and Complete Book on Greek Mythology Summary: 5 Stars
We are using this book as part of our unit study on Greek history and we have really enjoyed it.
The book is very colorfully illustrated and it is a very complete volume of Greek mythology. It is also written in a style that is easy to read and entertaining. My 8yo and 5yo have really enjoyed it, and so have I.
I think this book would add interest and entertainment to any study of Greek history; and it would also be great just as a fun read for anyone interested in Greek Mythology.
Book Review: Greek Myths Book Review Summary: 5 Stars
Do you want to learn about Athena? Or Artemis? Or Hermes? Or maybe you want to read about the mighty Zeus himself. Whoever you choose, they will be in this book. I first learned abount this book in school where we read about the major gods and goddess. After we had to return them, I ordered the book online so I could read more. This book is AMAZING!!! It was so easy to read that little kids could read and comprehend it, yet so complex that it was fascinating for older students as well. I give this 5 stars, but it deserves more.
Book Review: Great for the younger reader Summary: 4 Stars
I still have my copy of this book from my early childhood. It's a wonderful introduction to Greek mythology for the younger age groups. It doesn't go into tedious detail that most children would find boring, but it covers important highlights of major myths. It is a very whitewashed version of the mythos -- especially the story of Hera and Zeus, but since it's geared towards younger reader, that's only appropriate. This book is a great way to get children interested in the classics, in mythology itself. Highly recommended.
Book Review: Favorite book as a kid Summary: 5 Stars
This book is soooo good. I think when I was a kid I read it 20 million times (around age 6) and then again recently just browsing through it I realize it is still amazing. The pictures are great, and I really really don't think there is a better greek mythology book, as this has stories from minor gods as well, plus the first page has a chart showing how the gods are related. Greek mythology popped up again and again in school, and I was really then to have read it to. Every parent should give their child this book.
