Book Reviews of DIY Moon Light - Make Your Own!

Book Review: CHECK THIS OUT>>>>
Summary: 5 Stars

This "Moon Light" that I purchased off ebay cost me $46.00 total. (they were homemade) When I recieved these "Moon Lights", all it was: 4 LED's on a strand of wire and a 10v adapter!!! I was really disappointed when I first got them. But once I figured out a way to mount them, It was REALLY COOL!!

Then I got your manual. I read it and was really amazed! You made it so easy to understand! So I started the project for my brothers tank. (55 gal) By following the manual (and looking at the pictures) LOL, I made a better Moon Light for him. It cost me about $18.00 total!! I haven't put a dimmer switch on it, but I'm going to put one on both mine and his. (I'll have to order them from your site)

I have one suggestion though. In your manual, you describe mounting them on a flat panel of some sort. Well, before I got your manual, I had to figure out a way of mounting the Moon Lights that I had purchased. I tried a few things and they just didn't shine at the angle that I wanted. So here's what I did...

I went out to Lowes and bought me a protective cover for the long florescent bulbs. (about 40 - 50 inches long) I have a 30 gal tank, so I cut the protective covering down to 29 inches. I drilled 1/4 inch holes in it, and inserted my LEDs. Now I can turn the tubing at any angle!!! It sets behind my power compact angled down and forward. But really I guess it's how your reef is set up. Hope it helps!!!

Summary of DIY Moon Light - Make Your Own!

Aquarium owners have provided artificial sunlight for their tanks for many years. There are many different types and styles of day time lights, but not much attention has been given to night time lighting. In the evening, typically it is lights out and the fish, corals, invertebrates, etc., are left in the dark. However, in their natural environment, it is seldom totally dark. The moon gives off a soft glow that provides a minimal amount of light, even below the water surface. This small amount of light is important for several reasons. First, a small amount a light can help reduce stress on your tank's inhabitants. Second, by providing a small amount of "simulated" moon light, the tank is closer to the inhabitant?s natural environment. Third, you will be able to see the activity that goes on in you tank at night, which is particularly interesting of you have a reef tank. Fourth, and probably the best of all, it makes your tank look amazing. It has a soft blue glow, and if done properly, has a beautiful shimmer effect. This book provides a step by step guide on how to make your own moon light from readily available components. The whole project can be done in a single evening and will add a whole new dimension to your aquarium.
