Book Reviews of Dawn (California Diaries, No. 1)Book Review: EXCELLENT! Much better that the Babysitters Club! Summary: 5 Stars
Ann M. Martin has really outdone herself this time! I used to be an avid reader of the BSC series but soon came to realize they were unrealistic and poorly written. When I saw California Diaries in the store, I wasn't sure at all if I would like it, but decided to try it. I am so glad I did! Ann M. Martin has made up for the badly written BSC books with this great series about real life, including the problems that don't get solved, unlike the BSC, where everything is perfectly fine at the end of the book. 'Dawn' and 'Sunny' didn't settle everything at the end, there were things that were still a problem, like in real life, which makes these books great.
Book Review: Great!!! First Class!!! Summary: 5 Stars
With a move up to the high school building early and her dad leaving for a long trip Dawn hasn't got the easiest of lives at the moment. Her friends seem to be changing every minute, too. Nothing seems to be working out right for Dawn. And it hardly helps that she has to keep big secrets from her father.... I think this book was the best Ann M. Martin book I had ever read. I think that the California Diaries are better than the BSC because the BSC isn't really all that realistic. With the Califoria Diaries you can actually imagine everything happening. The book was both touching and sad, but overall the best book Ann has written. Well Done!!!!
Book Review: Dawn #1 is a great book! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a really good start to the series. I could not put this book down. The way the characters pull you in to their personal lives is great. I can understand the way Dawn feels in some parts, about your friends changing and growing apart. I like all the friends, too. Amalia, Maggie, Sunny, Ducky- but I HATE JILL! Talk about a big fat stupid baby. She made me so mad I just wanted someone in the book to beat her up! She made the story good in parts though, like when Dawn yells at her. This is really a great book and you should read it whenever you get a chance. It's even a good book if you want to read it over again, too!
Book Review: What should we expect from high school!! Summary: 5 Stars
I recommened the book Dawn by Ann M. Martin to any teenagers. In this book it shows the real life advantages and disadvantages of high school. The reason this book attracted me so much was because I am in 8th grade and I would like to know some personal journal enteries of freshmen in high school. Even though this book is a fictional book it is written so exquisitly that it sounds real. This book showed me how not to get tricked in high school and get in trouble. I was extreamly interested that I went and got the next four sequels. I highly recommend this book to 8th graders and kids who are going into a new school.
Book Review: a good introduction to the series Summary: 5 Stars
I thought this book was a good way to kick off the series. it was very well written and the part about the party was described in so much detail that it was like I was actually there. one part that I didn't like was dawn and her friends fight with jill. they could of at least tried to understand her instead of suddenly deciding that she was really immature. and dawn and her friends are faced with some really difficult choices while at the party that I thought helped make the book more realistic. this is a must read for people who like this series.
