Book Reviews of Dead Sleep

Book Review: Iles Impressive again
Summary: 5 Stars

Greg Iles unlike some authors seems to get more and more comfortable and elegant with each novel he writes.
Dead Sleep could be the best thriller writer writen by a male author from the feminine perspective ever. Jordon Glass is one of the most well rounded human characters I've met in recent fiction. Iles resists the temptation there must be to put his heroine on any type of pedastal and instead helps his character connect with readers by lending her strength because and in spite of her flaws.
The plot is relentless as Photojournalist Jordon Glass helps the FBI task force try to solve the mysterious disappearance of women(including her twin sister) whose images eerily appear in art. This novel is well researched pertaining to art world and the characters esaily leap off page into readers' imagination. Iles plotting pacing and characterization in this story lead me to call him a blooming literary maestro in his field. The ending while viewed by some admittedly as being hokey and contrived i view as uplifting testament to human spirit and thank you Mr. Iles for great read.

Book Review: Original Premise
Summary: 4 Stars

I picked this book to read because the premise sounded so original and it kept its promise. There are a series of paintings of nude women who appear to be asleep or dead on display in a gallery in Hong Kong. Jordan Glass, a world class photo journalist, discovers the paintings and is shocked to discover that one of them looks exactly her. The first page in this book is a little tricky. I wonder how many readers go back and read the first two paragraphs a second time before continuing with the story. Iles, in the tradition of the best mystery writers, doesn't come right out and tell the reader who the suspect could be, but he paints a picture and leaves it to the reader to pick up on his clues. So much more fun that way. There are ups and downs in this story. It bogs down in a few places, but the pace soon picks up again. At times, the suspense is so great, the reader is tempted to take a peek at the end. But it's a complicated story and the reader would miss out on a lot by doing that. A very good read.

Book Review: Gripping page-turner marred by a ludicrous ending
Summary: 3 Stars

Photojournalist Jordan Glass is trying to recover from having witnessed too much horror when she visits a gallery featuring a series of paintings of women who may be asleep - or dead. One of the paintings is of her missing twin sister, and when Jordan contacts the FBI she learns that the paintings appear to be linked to a number of kidnappings over the prior 2 years. She becomes involved in the investigation, battling not only the kidnapper but also her own inner demons. Author Greg Iles keeps the suspense tight as the case, and the multifaceted characters, unfold. You'll have to suspend your disbelief quite a bit (Is Jordan for real? Would the FBI really let her become so involved in their case? Does anyone really talk that much during sex?) but it is worth it almost until the end. My advice: read the first 24 chapters, then put the book down, and make up the most trite, ridiculous ending you can imagine. It won't be as bad as what the author is about to inflict upon you.

Book Review: Greg Iles has a knack for thrillers!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the first book I have read by Greg Iles, and I'm telling you, it won't be the last!! "Dead Sleep" has engaging, believable characters, a thrilling plot, and a double-whammy of an ending!! Jordan Glass, the main character, travels to Hong Kong as an ex-photojournalist. She spots paintings known as the "Sleeping Women," and she sres herself in one of those pictures, or her long lost twin sister who vanished into thin air over a year ago. But what is also startling about these paintings, is the women are nude and appear to be sleeping, but actually are believed to be dead. Now Jordan is determined to find out the truth of her sister and hunt for the killer. Not only is she hunting for the killer, but the killer is hunting her. Soon, Jordan finds out how someone knows a lot more about her family than she is willing to accept... A great novel, an all-time thriller!!! Don't pass this one up!!

Book Review: i may not even qualify to review this book........
Summary: 1 Stars

Ok, I am a big fan of action/thriller/suspense novels. I opened this one thinking it would be good. I'm one of those people that gives every book a chance. So i started reading this and i couldnt even get to page 100. I was falling asleep. And i was also annoyed. I didnt like the Jordan Glass character at all. She tries to pull off this tough, gritty persona, and she pretends that she doesnt think she's attractive. Ii'm aware that she is attractive from the beginning, but it keeps going on about it.
And she has this habit of thinking that every man she meets is going to make a pass at her. Even when he's not making a pass, she thinks he is. I was just so fed up with this character that I closed the book and put it on my bookshelf for decorative reasons. Hey, its a nice looking book, you know? why not. anyways, i guess I'm looking for something a little more tough and a little more thrilling.
