Book Reviews of Dead SleepBook Review: He keeps getting better! Summary: 5 Stars
I have now read three books by Greg Iles, and I can say that this is far and away the best of the three. I believe that Iles surpasses Grisham as the best thriller writer from Mississippi with this effort. Heck, who am I kidding Faulkner eat your heart out -- there is a new king in town. I can truly say I took this book to the beach and was unable to put it down. Iles writes in the 1st person as a female character and pulls it off beautifully. The best part of all is that unlike most thriller writers -- Iles does not try to overdo it with the profanity to cover up a lack of originality in the book's plot (are you listening John Sandford). I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of a good mystery/thriller.
Book Review: Stunning, informative book Summary: 5 Stars
This is a thriller about the extent to which some people go to enjoy the unusual in art. More that that, it is the story of Jordan Glass, a photo-journalist whose twin sister disappeared some time ago. It is her story of struggle, hopes, fears and redemption. It is as "picture perfect" (pardon the pun) a book as possible with interesting, riveting characters - both good and bad. The internal workings of the FBI, the love story with the agent, the four suspects and their stories - it is beyond me how anyone can find fault with this book. True, it is not an action packed thriller (quote unquote) but for those who are more inclined to the thriller (as opposed to the shoot-em-up type), it is a welcome addition.
Book Review: Good But Not Stunning Summary: 4 Stars
I had no trouble getting into this book, read it in only two days, and enjoyed it quite a bit. However, in my opinion it isn't nearly as good as Mortal Fear. There were times when I forgot Jordan Glass wasn't a guy. I believe that it is possible for an author to write from the perspective of the opposite sex, but it isn't easy, and Greg Iles hasn't quite managed yet. However, I did enjoy it that he brought Baxter and Lenz back from Mortal Fear and that they had not changed character at all. Good carry over job. The ending was difficult to believe and left me with a lot of questions. In fact, I skipped several of the next-to-last chapters. All told, a good book. But if you really want to be blown away, read Mortal Fear.
Book Review: Dead Sleep Rocks! Summary: 5 Stars
While in Hong Kong photojournalist Jordan Glass stumbles into a museum to discover the paintings of an unkown artist titled "The Sleeping Women." Jordan also discovers that the subject in one of the paintings is her exact replica. Could this be her twin sister who was abducted several months ago??? Are these women really sleeping, or are they dead???
Excellent read! I could barely stand to put the book down for any reason. The plot is well written and has many twists and turns to keep you guessing until the last page. All of the characters in the book are very well developed to the point you feel you know them as real people. If you enjoy well written suspense then this is a book for you!
Book Review: Suspense at it's best Summary: 5 Stars
From the first page to the last this story just gets better and better. Will Jordon find her sister, dead or alive? What about her father? Who really knows the details of the Sleeping Women and the true story behind her father? Each page is another page of suspense and mystery. Greg builds his characters in this book to the point you feel like you know each one of them as you would know your friends and neighbors. Some would not be your friends, others you learn to love. This is the type of story you want to take with you on a long plane ride. The time will go so much faster. Anyone who loves mystery and suspense mixed with friendship and love needs to put Greg Iles at the top of his/her reading list.
