Book Review: Maron's Knott series mysteries get better and better
Summary: 5 Stars
I have to agree with a reviewer who applauds Maron's decision to allow her detective-judge lead character (Deborah Knotts)to actually get married -- something that some authors (e.g. Evanovich) seem to avoid for fear of losing the drama and romance. There's plenty of both in this book within the context of a good marriage.
The plot involves an ambitious woman who is killed -- there's a fairly large range of possible killers because she has not treated others very well. Unfortunately for me, I had a hunch who the killer was and that turned out to be the case, but I read a lot of mysteries and the killer was not obvious.
Maron also explores tensions between city-dwellers who move to the country, thereby changing it, and the long-time residents, primarily farmers whose land is being turned into housing developments, thereby defeating many of the advantages of country living for everyone.
All in all, I found this book well-plotted, engaging, and absorbing, and look forward to reading the next in the series.

Unchecked urbanization has begun to eclipse the North Carolina countryside. As farms give way to shoddy mansions, farmers struggle to slow the rampant growth. In the shadows, corrupt county commissioners use their political leverage to make profitable deals with new developers.
