Book Reviews of Deep FreezeBook Review: Not a best seller to me, but a good read. Summary: 1 Stars
I've never read Lisa Jackson before, Deep Freeze, is my first with this author. She has a good theme, but the story fell flat for me along the very long tale.
The plot was creative but a bit over involved by to many characters. It seemed everyone in the storyline had "intense" blue eyes and watched her movies. It seemed to tangle things up as you tried to understand who each character was and how they were affecting the storyline.
Part of the fun of a mystery is to have a few good suspects, not a multitude to choose from. You tend to lose interest in the good characters by being muttled down in all the bystanders of the story.
Several times, certain lines were repeated, and repeated, making it seem that the reader, up to that point had no idea what the background of the character was. It became a bit like a recording that went off and you knew it was coming so you just skimmed over the words since you had already seen them several times before.
The book is 507 pages and could have been much shorter, even though I do like long stories. But this one tended to drag. Like a 5 hour movie that should have been chopped down to 2.5 hours at the most.
There are several mistakes in the book as well which was a bit distracting, as well as the sentence construction that makes a reader stop and re-read the line over to make sure they understand it.
On page 285 the killer is "stark naked", then on page 286 he suddenly "withdrew a gleaming hypodermic needle from his pocket", never giving him any opportunity to get dressed, this was a suprise to say the least. Come on, think up something better if you need that needle, have it on a table nearby, or on a medical tray filled with all sorts of weird objects. Be a little more creative, but at least remember you have him undressed first.
On page 445 in the building of the searching scene, Jenna the main character in your book is looking for her daughter Cassie. We are drawn into her frantic search, and it begins building our fear, then all the sudden, you call her Cassie. It took me a couple of re-reads to see you have called your main character Jenna, Cassie by mistake. I could not figure out why we had Cassie there if she was "missing".
So you may need to get a new proof reader, as these are just a couple of the things I noticed that did not flow with the rest of the story.
It was an interesting book, but as I said it was to long and muttled down, in my opinion. If I want to read anymore of Lisa Jackson's novels, I'll watch for them at the discount book store, because they are not worth full price.
For a best selling author, you aren't in the same league as Kay Hooper, Lisa Gardner or Linda Howard, to name a few excellent authors on the best sellers list.
One can only hope that Fatal Burn coming out in March will be a well constructed plot with a gripping storyline that is flawless.
Summary of Deep FreezeWhen she wakes up, she's very cold. Colder than she's ever been in her life. She can't move or speak. And then she sees him. The one who took her. And before she dies, she wishes she could scream...Former movie star Jenna Hughes left Hollywood for an isolated farm in Oregon to get away from fame. But someone has followed her - an obsessed fan whose letters are personal and deeply disturbing. And while Jenna's already shaken up by what she's seen on paper, she'd be terrified if she knew what Sheriff Shane Carter is investigating. It's a shocking case that started with the discovery of a dead woman in the woods. Now two more women are missing, one of whom bears a striking resemblance to Jenna...
