Book Reviews of Deep Storm: A Novel

Book Review: A wondrous journey
Summary: 5 Stars

Lincoln Child is part of a great team with Douglas Preston, giving the wonderful Pendergast series. Individually, they write novels on their own. Deep Storm is probably the best Child has written. Deals with Peter Crane being sent to a North Atlantic oil rig that is starting to have severe medical problems. As he reports for duty, he sees things aren't what they seem. The oil rig is gone, and a massive underwater digging project is underway. The premise for all this digging? The crew has found Atlantis on the bottom of the sea floor!! Strange to have it that far north, but a wow, right?
Many more inhabitants of the rig are getting worse. And it is up to Crane to unravel the mystery.
This book keeps you hopping and mind racing. From beginning to end.
Straight action and a fascinating premise.
Excellent read!

Book Review: My Space
Summary: 5 Stars

I like everything Lincoln Child writes, (and D.P.). My favorite was, Utopia. Now my favorite is, Deep Storm. I love how he writes to put you in a "framed" space. Like in Utopia, you were in the building where everything happened. Now I am under the ocean in a building where everything happens. It's just a neat feeling to be in a secured space within the story. Mount Dragon- kind of had that feeling for me, whereas Thunderhead was an outdoor adventure. Deep Storm was completely different from what I first thought it would be. I love how Lincoln uses facts with fiction. I learned new things about the earth's crust I had not known. I did research on the geology site and found some interesting facts about our wonderful planet. Now I wait for the next adventure. Thanks,Lincoln,(& Douglas). Has Utopia been built yet????

Book Review: Actually about a 3.5 Star Book for me....
Summary: 4 Stars

So i'm given this book the bump up because Lincoln Child is such a great writer and for the most part the book was very excited and a fun read. I was disappointed in the twist that occurs but not so disappointed that i would need to put the book down or not recommend it. This is still a good book to read.

The story unfolds much like an Atlantis discovery book and thickens into something much more intriguing and sci-fi based. The character development is very enjoyable as the plot thickens. You tend to grow to like character and are taken aback when they dont appear to be who you thought they were.

I love the way this writer writes and will continue to recommend him and read his newer novels.

A worthy summer read to add to your collection...3.5+stars from me.

Book Review: Entertaining, a trifle predictable
Summary: 4 Stars

Deep Storm is the story of a naval doctor who is hired to work on a top secret deep sea oil derrick. But things are not what they seem and Doctor Crane soon finds himself hip deep in mystery and conspiracy. I enjoyed Deep Storm, but found it predictable. It seems inevitable that any fiction involving a deep sea expedition would turn out the way this tale did in the end.

I also didn't care for the portrayal of Military in this book, either. Particularly Corollas. He just seemed so over the top. I felt the saboteur plot was a bit unnecessary. Do I really need to hear how a killer blows someone up with a airpump? Overall, 4 stars. Entertaining, would like to see a sequel... But no more gratuitous violence, please.

Book Review: Yes, it is Child's best solo book. . . .
Summary: 4 Stars

I enjoy this type of book and this author. I do get a little impatient with the overuse of a device that was -- if not invented -- at least perfected by Michael Crichton; that is, ending each chapter like a movie cut-scene. One example: "Marris licked his lips. 'Well, you see, that's the problem, sir. . . '" [END OF CHAPTER; CUT TO NEW SCENE]. Didn't even bother to finish the sentence because it would create an artificial moment of suspense.

It almost feels like reading a screen play (which probably makes it easier to pitch), but to me the device is a non-literary substitute for suspenseful writing. But that's OK for this genre, I guess. I see from reading the reviews many people like it.
