Book Review: The most comprehensive food journal I've found...and I looked at lots!

I wear a bodybugg to measure my daily caloric expenditure so, in order to know exactly the deficit of calories I take in to vs. what I burn, I have to be very accurate in recording my calories. (and I hate the bodybugg website because it's missing some important components and takes too much time to record my foods so I won't use it.)

This is so well thought out...whereas many diet planners have room for 3 meals a day, that doesnt work for those of us who keep our metabolisms revved with several small meals per day. Although it has slots for 6 meals, on days you eat even more meals than that, there is more than enough room. This has 33 slots per day to write down what you ate! Although that may sound TOO extensive, if you eat several components within one meal such as bread, meat, mayo, cheese, for a sandwich and then a yogurt with it...for example...there is room to break it all down and write down the nutritionals so you don't have to figure out the whole sandwhich and yogurt totals in your head and write it down as one unit.

There is even a space to do the math so you CAN add up each meal as you go so you know how many calories you have left to spend!

If you are tracking getting your 8 8-oz. water glasses each day, you can check those off in a slot at the top of the page, you can record your weight each day at the bottom of the page as well to see how the diet is going and what weeks worked the best and why.

Although the nutritionals that you are able to record are broken down into calories, fat, carbs, protein, and fiber, there are two slots to also add any other areas of importance of each meal such as sodium or weight watchers points etc.

There is a slot to toal up each nutritional so you know the grand totals and how you did at the end of the day

and there is also a section to record vitamins, supplements, and meds taken

The physical activity portion of the planner has 5 lines where you can record 5 different workouts or actions you did, how long you did them, how many times (such as reps) the intensity can be checked off as low med or high and then the calories burned.

Not enough info for ya? There is also a decent amount of space for extra notes. You might record here how you felt so you understand emotional eating, or you might write down when you felt hungry so you can go back and see if you need to eat more filling foods at certain times, such as more protein or fiber, in order to stay satisfied throughout the day.

You also check off whether or not you met all your goals. It's a good feeling to check yes!

Conclusion: It's the only one I'll buy...I also love that it is spiral bound so no pages ever fall out or no book bindings wear out since you use it so often. I always keep it open and bent back to the day I'm on so I never even have to find my page. Love it.

Summary of DietMinder Personal Food & Fitness Journal (A Food and Exercise Diary)

The DietMinder is a deluxe food diary with plenty of room to record quantities and food counts (calories, fat, carbs, protein, etc.) of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. A special area for daily totals makes it easy to see at a glance how you are doing. Each "day" consists of two pages with space for exercise details, too. There are other helpful sections in the book such as the "Favorite Foods" listing which provides food counts on over 100 common foods and has space to add your own favorite food information. The "Goals" section of the DietMinder is also important. Here you can list your starting statistics, state your goals, and even paste a "before" picture. This is a great way to stay motivated!

The DietMinder can be used with virtually any food or fitness program. It has been proven that keeping a food journal helps people focus and stay more committed to improving their eating habits. It really works!
