Book Review: Love hate relationship
Summary: 3 Stars

This book does a decent job of covering most of the places visited on the show. I do not know the reason every place was not covered but I do know that one place closed down.
The book is really about Guy, and the behind the scenes stuff from the show. The owners, cooks, and staff are highlighted. I would have liked to have seen more focus on the food. I would have liked to see the menus from the the DDD reprinted.
The food-
A large portion of the recipes in the book are not the ones featured on the show. I do not mean the exact recipe (I don't expect the owners to give away their secrets), I am talking about, on the the show they will feature a great soup from a particular restaurant and in the the book the would give a recipe for the restaurant's chicken salad. That's just an example. I am sure the chicken salad is great but that is not what intrigued me about that place. I saw them make the soup, you told me how wonderful it was and then you reproduce (none of the recipes are exact, Guy admits that he had to duplicate them on his own, with permission) chicken salad.
???? I don't understand.
If Guy and the Food Network staff are going to have to come up with the recipes on their own anyway, at least make it the ones featured on the show. Guy has a highly honed palate. I have seen him guess secret ingredients on the show just by taste. Which I know lots of chefs can do. Anyway, more food less behind the scenes stuff next time Guy.
