Book Reviews of Dog Training For Dummies

Book Review: After reading this book, neither you nor your dog will be a "dummy."
Summary: 5 Stars

I was searching for a resource written in "plain English" that would help me understand my dog from the inside out.

Dog Training for Dummies has given me some keen insight into my pet's psychology. I absolutely love the concept of "postive training" as this method will undoubtly ensure a positive bonding experience with my dog.

Jack and Wendy Volhard have written a training manual that should be given to each new puppy owner. This resource has de-mystified the concept of dog training for me and has encouraged me to challenge my dog to be the best canine citizen he can be. This is, of course, for his good and well being as well as for ours.

Book Review: The Best Dog Book Ever Written!
Summary: 5 Stars

Don't buy a dog without this book! The book has "Dog Personality Tests" that really work and they will tell you what kind of dog a 6-week-old puppy will become when s/he grows up! Whether the puppy will be a social pack member or antisocial and prefer to chase birds in the yard, etc.,etc. I cannot emphsize the benefits and accuracy of these tests enough! This book was written by the developers of the tests (the Volhards), and I didn't realize how many reputable kennels used these tests until I shopped around for my second German Shepherd. The training sections are great, too. This book is a MUST!

Book Review: A great resource
Summary: 4 Stars

I have actually bought this book twice. Once for myself to train my Chesapeake Bay Retriever puppy, and the second time for my father and his new Chessie pup. Great methodology on how to train your pet with our without treats. Outlines step by step procedures for getting your dog to do both basic obedience and advanced tricks. I still refer to the book from time to time when the dog gets unruly. Only negative is that the book could use better diagrams and pictures.

Definitely recommend picking this book up!

Book Review: Gets right to the point
Summary: 5 Stars

Like so many of the books in the for dummies series it is well written and just gets down to business. The approach taken with this book is a nonviolent approach to training with training being enjoyed by both man (or woman) and beast. I have been training my Shiba Inu puppy based on this book for the last two months now and have had good results.

Book Review: Great Book
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a great addition to anyone who has a dog behavior shelf in their library. The Volhards are among the best trainers with years of experience. This volume breaks down techniques for basic training to simple lessons that can be used to reinforce any obedience classes a person might attend.
