Book Reviews of Down River

Book Review: Worst of his 3 books
Summary: 1 Stars

His most recent book "The Last Child" was stunningly excellent. I then went back to read his first book "The King of Lies" which was award winning and quite good. So of course I then read the book that was published between his first and last. Terrible. I suspect that he wrote it prior to his first, and knowing that it sucked, threw it out on the market AFTER winning his award capitalizing on his success with the first. Oh well, at least #3 showed that this man can write well!

Book Review: Mystery with accurate portrayal of southern family dynamics
Summary: 4 Stars

For those aiming to read books that are more than "grocery store" suspense offerings but don't require the patience of a literature professor to wade through character studies, this is a book for you. Excellent writing propels the tale of fractured family relationships that can be found in old southern families. An old mystery and a new mystery keep the relationship issues from becoming the only focus of the story. A quick read; an enjoyable read.

Book Review: Skip the trip down this river
Summary: 2 Stars

Simply could not buy into this book. The protagonist spends so much time driving back and forth from one miserable place to another, moving between broken and dysfunctional relationships, that he seems to have no core to his own being. When he finally finds the answers he is looking for, one wonders why he ever bothered. Stuck with it to the end, though I don't know why, and found it uninspiring. Would not read another of Hart's.

Book Review: Do Not Judge A Book By It's Cover...
Summary: 5 Stars

When I saw this book on Amazon, I did not think the cover looked too appealing so I put off reading it for a few months. The cliche rang out loud and clear here because this book was excellent. The storyline clicked at a good pace and there were family relationship issues intertwined in the mystery. One of the better books that I have read in a long time. Glad I can add another author to my MUST READ list.

Book Review: Interesting
Summary: 4 Stars

I understand that Adam, the main character, was hurt deeply but didn't like it that he wouldn't forgive his father. I felt more sorry for the father than for Adam.

Lots of very interesting characters throughout so it kept my interest until the very last page.

There wasn't a lot of sex so I didn't have to skip over much. I hate it when an author goes into detailed sex scenes!
