Book Reviews of DragonArt

Book Review: More for Beginners than Experienced Artists
Summary: 3 Stars

I had picked up this book awhile back and I had to say, it really was a great tool for the starting stages of drawing. The main things I really used in this book were the section with the skeletal & muscle structure and the wing section.

The main thing I was a bit disappointed in was the fact that it really doesn't go into a whole lot of detail on certain sections such as head. There was too much in which it felt like those kiddy drawing books where you really didn't learn much other than to trace. It feels like this book would be geared towards younger preteen artists than those wanting to heavily study in it.

If you already have some knowledge in basic structure of a dragon, I wouldn't really recommend this book.

Book Review: Ah, to be young again . . . and also a dragon.
Summary: 5 Stars

Hands down one of the best "How to Draw ____" books I've come across. Peffer's book (in full-color) has easy to follow step-by-step instructions on how to construct dragons (and a few other creatures) from their basic anatomy to variations on body parts (tails, horns, etc...) and some information on basic composure and shading techniques.

That besides, the art in this book is absolutely stunning, and the instructions and commentary are very helpful (without being overly obscure or too technical) and surprisingly witty. I would honestly be tempted to buy this book even if it were not as solid an instructional guide as it is.

Highly recommended without reservation.

Book Review: Helpful

It's definitely not the only book you'd need to master the art of drawing dragons, but it does help. I'm not a great artist, and stick mostly to humans, but I saw this on amazon and had to get it. The book has tutorials on the bits and pieces of dragons (horns, wings, tails, claws), specific limbs (arms, legs, hands and feet [claws and paws]) and full body tutorials. Then full body tutorials on quite a few other mythical creatures. I only wish there had been a tutorial or two on how the legs fit onto the dragons, and the movement of the joints, but there wasn't. Still it's a fun and informative read for anyone wishing to start drawing dragons, or sharpen their skills.

Book Review: Dragonart: How to Draw Fantastic Dragons and Fantasy Creatures
Summary: 5 Stars

This book not only appeals to adults but to children as well, and it is easy to follow. I sat down with my 8 year old granddaughter and helped her to sketch a dragon.

I thought is was absolutely fascinating, and actually purchased it, not to draw dragons but to use it for creating a fantasy plush toy dragon. However, once I saw the sketches and final product, I decided to tackle drawing a few dragons myself and just loved the details and overall look.

I am not an expert artist but found this book was written in such a way as it helped my art (of this type) look more professional. Thanks, I would recommend it to anyone.

Book Review: Great for beginner to intermediate artists!
Summary: 4 Stars

Ok, so i got this from barnes and nobles a few months a ago and so far it has been really great to use. It offers great tips for beginners and its layed out in an easy to understand kind of format which i really enjoyed. though i really like the colors and pictures in the book, the step by step how to's weren't all that great as they are really detailed and might not be great for someone who is new to drawing really intricate and detailed pictures. but all in all its a great book and well worth the 20$ i paid for it and it would make a great gift for someone really into dragons, mythical creatures, and drawing! :)
