Book Reviews of Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander, Book 2)

Book Review: Not as good as the first...
Summary: 3 Stars

I would rate this book as an average read (hence the three stars). The first book ('Outlander') I simply could not put down and I finished very quickly. However, this second installment of the series was more difficult to read, and I just didn't feel the desire to pick it up every day as I did the first. It actually took me about two months for me to read this, which is an extraordinarily long time for me. While there were some interesting sections of the novel (the parts with Alex and Jack Randall, the process of how Claire discovers Jamie didn't die at Culloden, and the introduction of Bree), I will say that I was bored through a lot of it. Sometimes, it is also hard to follow the historical aspects of the novel, unlike the previous book. However, I must recommend to everyone to read this book...I am in the middle of the third novel now ('Voyager'), and it is simply fantastic! So, if you liked the first book and want to read the entire series, I would suggest this book to you, so you can enjoy the books that follow it!

Book Review: Sad excuse for "historic novel"
Summary: 1 Stars

If you like Hustler you will love this book - if I wanted Pornography I would order it on Pay per View. Totally unnecessary porn as in Mister Raymond putting fingers into Claire's vagina in order to save her life! Randall buggering Jamie and Jamie letting him after Randall had already let Claire leave. Yeah I know he gave his word of honor but I don't believe any true Highlander would let himself be buggered for the sake of honor. If you are anything like me you will find yourself skipping pages at a time in order to avoid this trash.

Boring to the point of fatigue through a lot of it. If you are having trouble sleeping this is the book for you.

Maudlin enough at times to bring on nausea.

Crisis after crisis after crisis and all they have to do after each crisis is bang each other's brains out and that makes everything all right.

I'm sorry I had to give it one star.

Book Review: Supernatural historical romance - love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love books that assume you have a mind - and include romance. This sequel to Outlander is brilliantly engineered....I was breathless throughout this book, and so glad I discovered this series late in the game, so I could go on to the next book, Voyager.... and see what happened next. Waiting would have been sheer torture!

Beautifully written devotion, interesting, realistic historical aspect - very intriguing. Very glad to find authors who can explore married love and passion and are at the same time intellectual. - I love the Twilight Series and am glad to have discovered Gabaldon and am currently reading this book (and the entire series). Until these two series, frankly had given up on romantic fiction. Stephenie Meyer and Diana Gabaldon have done great work in creating strong, ethical people - with integrity. Diana has done it in a more mature style with unforgettable characters!

Book Review: A fabulous sequal to "Outlander"
Summary: 4 Stars

I began this book very excited and nervous about what would unfold for Claire and Jamie Fraser. I quickly became confused as I delved into the first section of the novel, looking back to the cover and rereading the sequence of the series, asking myself "Did I forget something? Is this really the next novel in the series?" The beginning of the novel felt a little disjointed, and I became suddenly disappointed at the prospect of missing out on Claire and Jamie's child's raising.

Thankfully, the pace of the novel returned and I was able to join Claire and Jamie's adventures in France, and loved every second of it. Although I understand the reason Diana G. began the novel in the way that she did, I found it very confusing and even anti-climatic. Anyone who loved "Outlander" will enjoy this novel--don't give up during the first few chapters, keep going and read the lovely tale Diana spins.

Book Review: Must Read Sequel to Outlander
Summary: 5 Stars

When reviewing Outlander I had stated that it was the best book I'd ever read. I now have to say the series of Outlander books are the best I've ever read. Dragonfly in Amber is simply breathtaking. The political intrigue and history is so perfectly written - informative without being dry and dull. This time period holds special interest to me as my ancestors immigrated from Scotland and Ireland along this time period. Jamie and Claire's love story is written so that his book doesn't come across as a "cheesy historical romance". While their very descriptive love is certainly deep and passionate, it isn't written in a sickenly sacchrine style. My husband is currently reading Outlander and verra much enjoying it and plans to read the entire series. The ending of this book is one of the most emotional and powerful I've ever read. Keep a box of tissues handy. And certainly read the third book, Voyager.
