I gave this book to my husband, who did not put it down. His wonder at the fresh prose, the honesty of the writing and the insight into growing up black and white are unparalleled. I listened to this audio book on a five hour driving trip, when I was rolling along or in standing traffic. (Don't worry, the book is not five hours long.) It was a wonderful introduction to his early years, his family, his fledgling start in community organizing, and his decision to get an advanced degree. You'll learn what his parents and extended family poured into his character and where he gets some of his ferver and inspiration to change how we approach political and social issues in our country. At the end of the recording, you'll hear his 2004 keynote speech at the Democratic Convention, where most of us first met Sen. Obama; then everything you heard in this memoir will fall into place. President Obama received a Grammy Award for this recording and when you hear it, you'll know why! Book Review: It Will Keep Your Attention

I purchased the book on CD read by President Elect Obama. I could not have made a better decision. The book is well written and holds you from beginning to end. Having read it, I have a greater appreciation for the work that God is doing in the life of this young man and the lives that will be touched while he is on his journey. As an Afrikan female, the book made my longing for a piece of my own history more of a passion for me. I highly recommend the book.
