Book Reviews of Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less: A Handbook for Slashing Gas Prices and Solving Our Energy CrisisBook Review: A Call To Action Summary: 4 StarsAmong the many crises facing America today, the energy crisis looms as one of the largest. The solution seems simple, yet the US leadership can't seem to take any decisive action that would lead us if not to outright energy independence, at least a greatly lessened dependence on foreign oil. Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less may seem like simplistic sloganeering, but it is in fact a comprehensive plan for putting the country on the road to energy independence.
Comprehensive is the key word because nearly everyone should find something in it that pleases them. Author Newt Gingrich does not ignore the need to wean the economy from over-dependence on petroleum and anyone who thinks this book is all about oil didn't read it.
Band-aid approaches never work and often worsen a problem through policy distortions. Gingrich argues for a policy that fosters development of alternative energy resources such as hydrogen, wind, and solar while maintaining that we should also be using oil resources that WE have here until those alternative resources become economically viable.
Those who think a world with the billions of people it now contains can safely return to a pre-industrial way of life are dangerous and foolish dreamers. Rational people reading this book will recognize that we need to put aside partisan differences and start working together to solve the energy problem now, and this book gives ideas on how to do that. High energy costs affect everyone, not just members of one party. Let those who refuse to compromise walk while the rest of us find a reasonable way to overcome the problem.
Summary of Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less: A Handbook for Slashing Gas Prices and Solving Our Energy CrisisNew York Times bestselling author, former Speaker of the House, and Fox News political analyst Newt Gingrich has a plan for slashing gas prices and reducing our long-term dependence on foreign oil. Gingrich is famous for taking big, visionary ideas and boiling them down into practical solutions as demonstrated in this year's earlier release, Real Change, which was on the New York Times bestseller list for eleven weeks. His new book Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less does just that. Dealing not only with spiraling gas prices, but with the energy crisis as a whole, Gingrich shows how we can safely reap the benefits of America's own natural resources and technology in gas, oil, coal, wind, solar, biofuels and nuclear energy. Gingrich argues that the pinch Americans are feeling at the pump is not a blip in the economy but a looming crisis--affecting not only the price of gas, but the price of food, the strength of our economy, and our national security. To meet this crisis, Gingrich lays out a national strategy that will tap America's scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs, and require Congress to unlock our oil reserves and remove all the impediments and disincentives that unnecessary government regulation has put in the way of American energy independence. The energy crisis is solvable, as Newt Gingrich's plan makes clear. His handbook, Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less is sure to become the talk of the presidential campaign season.
