Okay, well, I was a big fan of the BSC when I was like, ten or something. But I don't like Ann M Martin's writing style at all. I mean, the BSC was sooo unrealistic. And she should have made the charecters a little older. What 13 year old is supposedly as mature as she makes them out to be? They're just little kids! Anyway, the California Diaries are better. She does real life problems at least, or anyway she tries to. But she doesn't do a good job of that. First of all, she doesn't have the guts to kill off a charecter right. Sure, Sunny's mom died, but she dragged it out so much that everyone expected it. And when a charecter did die suddenly in the BSC, it was some girl that was never mentioned before and never mentioned again. I think a writer should be brave enough to make someone die rather suddenly and make it an important charecter, if they're going to kill anyone at all. Like Kate William did with Olivia Davidson and Regina Morrow, among others, in the Sweet Valley series. Those girls were main charecters, especially Olivia, and I really admire Kate for having the guts to make them die. Sunny's mom's death was unrealistic and so was Sunny's reaction to it. And did anyone notice how the series just pretty much ended only three books after Mrs. Winslow died? Like that was the whole point of the series or something. And I really don't like Dawn, she's childish and bratty. And I have a problem with Maggie, too. She's such a hypocrite. Like, she says she hates having so much money but no one is forcing her to ride around in a limo or wear nice clothes or keep her journal on a laptop, for god's sake. That's the stupidest thing. Like Ann M Martin decides that Maggie is rich, so she would just keep her diary on a laptop computer. And all she writes is that she doesn't like being rich. Hello? Rich kids use spirals too. And Ducky, I really think he must be gay or something. He hangs around with 13 year old girls, likes to shop, and wasn't attracted to Sunny. He never even had a girlfriend and he's 16. Obviously something's up. A 16 year old guy is just not like that, not if he's normal. Ducky should be hanging around guys and girls his own age and should have at least had a girlfriend or two in the past. Okay, so CD is better than the BSC but they are not realistic at all. Get real, Ann M Martin!
