Book Reviews of E.A.R.L.: The Autobiography of DMXBook Review: E.A.R.L. Summary: 4 StarsEarl Simmons, the rapper better known as DMX, has had his first four albums enter the charts at No. 1. He is the only artist ever to start off on such a successful streak. That record is especially notable because, in a hip-hop world rendered blindingly bright by a diamonds and bling bling atmosphere, DMX keeps it ruthlessly real. His songs are ferocious, street level battlegrounds, charged in equal part by explosive violence and a desperate yearning for spiritual redemption. Those same currents drive his autobiography, a collaboration with the journalist Smokey D. Fontaine. DMX makes no effort to justify his violent robberies that provided his livelihood for long stretches of his teens and early twenties. He depicts himself in such incorrigible terms, that by the time he's beaten so badly that his jaw needs to be wired shut for three months, you feel he's gotten only what he deserves. Somehow, you're rooting for him every step on his long, slow climb to stardom. That contradiction sums up why this book is like hip-hop at its best. It's a fearsome narrative that raises many more issues than it resolves, and leaves the reader feeling both exhilarated and deeply unsettled.
Book Review: Dis is a very good book Summary: 5 StarsThis book is incredible. It shows DMX's struggle and how he survived the streets of Younkers. It showed in very good detail the pain he felt after ceartain events. That book pointed out his rage and why he is who he is today. I am very very very very glad I read this book and I hope you guys will be as happy as I was.
Book Review: DMX isn't afraid to be himself & show his dark side! Summary: 5 StarsDMX shows his true self in this book. It is an all out account of who he is and where he has been. He delves into many areas of his past where other celbs would dare not go. He isn't afraid to show how bad he's been and that he has struggled to get where he is today. He brings the Ghetto and the struggle for life and your soul to the front. He does not try to paint a rosy picture. It is very gritty. He shows how he didn't sell out his music. He stayed true to what and how he wanted to say it. DMX you are the Dog!
