Book Reviews of Eating for BeautyBook Review: Inspiring intro to benefits of raw foods; not just about "beauty" Summary: 5 Stars
I almost didn't read this book, which was on a friend's coffee table, because I was a little turned off by the title, which to me seemed to imply a focus on appearance. But while the book does point out the physically beautifying properties of the many food ingredients covered, it's not the main focus. What I found instead was a very thoughtful, thorough, and even inspiring explication of how diet affects our well-being, along with a practical and appealing guide for introducing and appreciating many healthful raw foods into our diet.
While the book shows the occasional rough edge (one chapter ends in mid-sentence at the bottom of a page), this is minor compared to the wealth of useful, appealingly-presented information included. A few, very helpful tables and graphs help illustrate important principles, and an entire section details a long list of the most healthy and important individual foods, where each is given its own mini-chapter, covering everything from the food's history, proper selection, preparation, combining, health benefits, and even the occasional tips for wild harvesting. A few background and more philosophical chapters bring the vision together, and there's even a nice selection of raw recipes. The thoroughness and thoughtfulness displayed throughout are impressive, and the author's passion for and knowledge about his subject are inspiring and infectious.
The writing is generally very clear and simple, written in a friendly, easy first-person style. There are a few, fairly innocuous plugs for the author's line of superfood supplements, but I was surprised by how quickly I warmed to his clear, simple message, and found myself eager to adopt some of the principles that he makes so attractive through his loving and well-constructed presentation. I now have my own copy, and am lending it to others to help them understand why I am changing my diet.
So happy I found this book! Thank you, David Wolfe.
Book Review: A Total Approach to True Beauty Summary: 5 Stars
This book takes a total approach to beauty, which I love, one that expands your body, mind, and soul. Because beauty truly comes from within, from one's inner vitality and spirit which translates to a more beautiful face and body. The author takes a truly expansive approach to beauty. I believe that beauty is a reflection of one's inner vitality and radiance and that vitality of the mind and spirit create that through self-love and optimal wellness. When you love yourself and others, you will take care of yourself in all aspects (body, mind, and soul) and create a loving demeanor which will give a beautiful softness to your face. The author, David Wolfe, is aligned with this way of thinking. You can tell that he truly takes a natural approach, one that is spirit-centered and soulful, to create beauty from within.
This book is great as it will not only make you more beautiful, but enrich your body, mind, and spirit. There are beautiful photos of super foods to accompany this book and an underlying philosophy of beauty that is inspiring. He takes a lot of inspiration from the beauty philosophy of classic Greece and there is much to learn from that. If you are interested in a total, expansive approach to beauty that starts from within, then I would get this book. But as there is a lot of specific, detailed information, don't feel obligated to read from front to back. Just skim as you please and take in little bits here and there to start you on your path to realizing your true beauty potential.
Book Review: Simple Beginner Info for Raw Foodists Summary: 5 Stars
Eating For Beauty is a must-have for someone embarking on a healthier lifestyle, or a raw food mission! Not only is the book full of simple, informative, easy-to-understand, straight-forward information; it also has some of the most divine images available of fruits and vegetables.
While many health books tend to be so scientific, one can barely understand the lingo, David Wolfe makes raw food accessible to everyone. This book transformed our lives, as we stayed up late reading the information, highlighting passages, clipping the beat-up book together so as not to lose vital pages, etc.... We wrote our own book, The Healing Patch Cookbook, after much time spent with Wolfe's writings. It was a fantastic guide that helps bring us into the reasons why so many people seek out raw food as a way to begin transforming their lives. In a sense, this book helped us not only eat a large portion of raw food, but also become authors ourselves through being inspired!
If you are questioning whether or not to get this book, question no more. You will find a plethora of beautiful writing here to satisfy your raw food wonderment!
Book Review: Brilliant Summary: 5 Stars
An important and wonderful book on how to eat not only for health but for inner and outer beauty as well. You have all heard that you are what you eat. Take a good, long look at people leaving McDonalds clutching a greasy paper bag. If that is what you want to look like fine. However, if you want better for your family and your self, consider what David Wolfe offers in this seminal book on eating for optimal health and radiant beauty. Rainbow Mars (the beautiful lady on the cover), is a great example of exercising and eating correctly. The Kirlian photography is amazing and assists in pointing you in the direction of food that has life essence and energy in abundance and how you can share in this tremendous source of energy and vitality. This book and David's other exhaustive treatise on the subject of raw foods, The Sunfood Diet Success System are well researched and contain vital information that can lead you to increased mental and physical health. Together these books have the capacity to change your life and raise your vibration to a much higher level than you ever thought possible. I highly recommend these books.
Book Review: Live long & be Healthy, Read this Book! Summary: 5 Stars
My wife and I have readextensively about natural health and have as a consequence experimented with various ways of eating. We've tried vegetarian, to vegan to vegan raw food. Vegan raw food is definetely the way to go and David Wolfe's work is a great educational tool to show you why & how. Eating for Beauty is a very well researched book, full of images that useful info. I would also recommend the latest dvd that david has come out with called Raw for Life.
The main thing is that if you are looking at improving your health and/or curing some illness and are surfing amazon for the right book always check out the author and ask yourself does he/she look healthy? Everyone I know that has gone into the raw food lifestyle is very healthy. My wife and I have three small kids and they are growing up on raw vegan food and they're doing great. Best thing you can do for yourself is get some education and experiment for 30 days, you'll be amazed!One book you must get is David Wolfe's on raw chocolate, great tasty recipes there too!
