Book Review: Great for children and families

I got this book for my daughter for christmas and she loves it! It seems simple, but it has been a great creative and fun past time for my 5 year old. She can sit there and make "thumbies" for hours. Its a great family craft that everyone can do even if you cant draw or can serve as a fun past time for your children to do on their own. The best part is that it is a very good price!!! Ed Emberley is fantastic, and I was so excited that he had a "new" book out that I didn't notice the small print. This isn't a new book, but a compilation of the Fingerprint Drawing Book and the Great Thumbprint Drawing Book. I'm not upset, because I love giving these books as gifts and will happily give this one, but I was very disappointed that it was not, in fact, a new book from Emberley.

I first saw this book at my children's preschool. The teachers helped the children make many cute art projects with it. Now, my 5 & 7 year olds love this book! It's great because they can follow the picture instructions step by step by themselves and the object they're making actually looks like the one in the book! Really fun book! I'm not crafty and this was so easy for me, my 7 year old son, and even my 2 year old daughter. A terrific activity for our cancelled school snow day. Simple instructions to follow and a great sense of self esteem for the children as they accomplish their creations. No frustration for mom trying to explain it either. This book gives a thorough selection of holidays, themes, and a wide variety of thumbprints to choose from. There are step by step sections for the beginner. The examples provide good color ideas as well.
In addition to using ones' thumb, the book encourages pinky finger prints, or even using just the tip of any finger. A great first thumbprint book!
