Summary: 4 Stars

ELLA ENCHANTED

The book Ella Enchanted is about a girl named Ella who had a
curse since she was a baby. One of Ella's goals is to find her fairy godmother Lucinda. I think this book is made for kids from 9 to 12.
I think you should read my book because it's very good and if you
like mysteries you should read this because this is kind of like one.
The character Ella life really changes when her mother dies
and her father marries a lady named Mum Olga. When the get
married Ella gets treated wrong. The people that treat her this way
is her own father, her evil stepmother, and her two evil stepsisters
Hattie and Olive.
Ella's father sends her off to finishing school with Hattie and
Olive and there she meets a nice girl from Amonta named Areida.
Ella doesn't care much at all for finishing school so she won't be there
a long time.
When Ella's father leaves she has to stay with her evil stepfamily,
but they sill treat her like dirt. They make her do what the maids are
suppose to do like clean up the house, cook, etc.

Summary of Ella Enchanted

ELLA ENCHANTED is a witty, refreshing take on the popular fairytale, Cinderella which preserves the spirit of the original but adds plenty of humorous twists and a spunky, intelligent female protagonist. "If you've read HARRY POTTER, try ELLA ENCHANTED" Publishers Weekly Ella is given a blessing at birth by a very stupid fairy: She gets the gift of obedience! but the blessing turns into a horror for Ella who literally has to do what anyone and everyone tells her, from sweeping the floor to giving up a prrecious necklace! She has to battle with ogres and wicked stepsisters, make friends and loose them, and even deny she loves her Prince Char to save his life and his kingdom. The story overthrows the stereotypes of the original Cinderella when Ella breaks the curse -- not the prince -- saving not only herself, but Prince Char as well. And Ella rejects his proposal of marriage, at least until she decides herself to propose to him! And the curse is only broken because she's said 'No!' rather than 'Yes!'. -- "If you've read Harry Potter, try ELLA ENCHANTED." Publishers Weekly -- High in Publishers Weekly Bestseller list for several months -- A Newbery Honor Medal winner, 1998 -- SHORTLISTED WITH hARRY pOTTER IN jULY FOR THE aMERICAN mYTHOPAEIC aWARD (dIANA wYNNE jONES WON).
Every child longs for the day when he or she will be free from meddling parents and bossy grownups. For young Ella, the heroine of Gail Carson Levine's Newbury Honor-winning debut novel, this is more than a fanciful wish; it could be a matter of life or death. Placed under the spell of a blundering fairy, she has no choice but to go through life obeying each and every order--no matter what the consequences may be. "If you commanded me to cut off my own head, I'd have to do it."

Eden Riegel (As the World Turns, Les Miserables) uses her youthful, energetic voice to lead the listener into a familiar world of fairy godmothers, wicked stepsisters, and handsome princes. But this imaginative retelling of the Cinderella story comes with a welcome twist. Instead of a demure heroine patiently awaiting a prince who will carry her off, this Ella is a feisty ball of fire with the courage and ambition to take matters into her own hands.

Riegel narrates in a youthful, energetic tone that is perfectly suited to Ella's character. Her voice adds charm and immediacy to a wonderful story already rich with excitement, adventure, romance, and mystery. (Running time: 5.5 hours, 4 cassettes) --George Laney
