Book Reviews of Enchanted: Erotic Bedtime Stories For WomenBook Review: truly a story for bedtime Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this book because I enjoy reading erotic stories especially together with my boyfriend and according to the reviews I expected a good erotic book.
The very first fairy tale took me about five tries but I never came to the point to finish it as I was either too bored or it made me tired and I fell asleep.
Also the other stories I read so far were everything but erotic, or exciting they are probably good for people not able to fall asleep because they really tire you!
I am a person who loves to read and whenever I start reading a book I have to finish it (even if it's not good) but honestly with this one I will give up on this principle because so far - I read about 7 stories - it wasn't worth the time.
Book Review: all but one Summary: 4 Stars
I enjoyed these stories quite a bit. I thought that taking a look at female sexuality through fairy tales was more of an exuse to write erotic stories, until I read "Cat and Mouse" and "Mirror on the wall". These 2 stories and "Ugly Duckling" make the book worthwhile. I enjoyed most of the others as well, but "Cat-Mouse" and "Mirror" were definately the most profound... that said, I absolutley HATED what Madore did with "The Goose Girl". The original fairytale is a sad one, but I've always enjoyed it. This version is awful and ruined the whole point of the story. The others... fit. Even "Goldilocks" which I didn't like that much either. Still, it sort of fit with the original tale. "The Goose Girl" was completely ruined and very disappointing.
Book Review: Powerful! Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely adored Nancy Madore's Enchanted. When we take into consideration the fact that fairy tales have been used to tame women's sexuality and to instill negative ideals about beauty and image, Madore's reclaimation of the genre to free women's thinking about sex and sexuality is awe-inspiring. I like the way she takes some fantasies that we have been taught to think of as taboo and others that have been deemed just a little naughty and makes them come to life in a positive and powerful way. The most postive aspect of this collection, however, is the underlying messages about women's beauty images, the beauty-myth and self-esteem. The collection is a must read for every woman who wants to more fully experience her own erotic power.
Book Review: Erotic and confidence inspiring Summary: 5 Stars
I really enjoyed these erotic twists on old fairy tales. The writing is well done, too, which keeps you from rolling your eyes and getting distracted from poor writing.
The author seems to have taken the most common topics of womens' fantasies and 'improves' on old tales to reflect those general fantasies. Worked for me! There are 13 individual short stories, so if one of them isn't doing it for you, move on to the next. Lots to choose from.
The author also adds some not-subtle reminders to you, the reader, to enjoy your sexuality with confidence. It wasn't preachy and I enjoyed it, actually found it a bit confidence-inspiring. I'll look for her books again.
Book Review: My First! Summary: 3 Stars
Erotica is a new genre for this literature professor.
As a woman, I was looking for something titillating for women, but hetero. I found the early stories to fit the bill; however, as I ventured on into the collection of stories, I realized that the stories weren't so much "for women" as they were traditional MALE fantasies (more than one story featuring the woman in question enjoying either serial or simultaneous sex with several men at once, for example).
Not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's what you want.
But I was expecting something more. . . .woman-centered --not so much man-engulfing.
So to speak.
