Book Review: Bringing the "know-how" to picking the dog for you!

I really thought this book was a wonderful tool. I'm a beginner when it comes to dog breeds and this book was perfect. I could walk through the pages and read the specific information I wanted and mark the page if I liked the breed, then come back to read the full review on each of the breeds I had marked. The book is separated by sizes in a sense, hunting breeds, toy breeds, miniatures and so on. I loved it. The book really gave me a feel for what my family needed. this is a great book for those who are new to the dog world,has great pics and accurate info on the breeds,if you are looking to see which purbred is best for your family this is a Very good guide,the only drawback for me is that it only covers AKC registered breeds,if you are looking for the lesser known or non-AKC breeds(which are just as good as a AKC breed)this book will not give you what you want.all in all though it is a good book for a beginer.Book Review: A dog gone good book!

As an avid fan of dogs and other things related to general caninery, I have found this book an absolute joy as both a research companion, and a flotation device.
I have a mixed breed daschund/pomeranian, and he's quite the fetcher! This book gives him something fantastic to chase, and if and when I choose to stud my dog, I'm sure the nice pictures of bitches in this book will get him ready to reproduce.
An excellent read all around.

Fabulous coffee table book with excellent pictures of every dog breed. More importantly, a must get for the person (like me) planning to get a puppy. The thorough text told about characteristics of the breed so I could narrow down the options and get the puppy that really suited me. Now that I have that puppy (Havanese) I continue to refer to the book as I hear about or see other breeds that I want to learn about.Book Review: Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds

The book is wonderful. It has a "scoring" system which enables the reader to determine how much affection, exercise, intelligence etc. the particular breed has/needs. We chose the breed we want (Golden Retriever) by comparing it with the others. Only problem with the book was that the binding was upside down. When you open the book, the "guts" are upside down. Other than that, the book was great.
