This is a good book because it tells you about different dog breeds. If you like a certain breed, it will tell you all about it. It has photographs of every AKC purebred dogs. It tells you about their history, temperament and upkeep and form and function. Finally, it rates on a scale of 1 to 5 grooming, training and compatability. This is a great book for Dog lovers. It has information comparing breeds. You can determind if a breed will get along with your cat,love children,and is suited for the climate you live in. Their is a wealth of information at a glance. If the book has any problem is that it is limited to the accepted breeds of the AKC. Their are some 400 breeds of dogs ,the AKC only reconise 160.Book Review: Great Reference

This book is a really good reference for people that want to learn about different dog breeds. It is a basic, easy-to-understand book, that provides a quite impressive summary on each breed - referencing to temperment, maintenance and even affection level of each breed based on a 1-5 scale. I bought this book for my son's tenth birthday. He is crazy about dogs. This is a fantastic book-very informative, great photos, good quality and basically a nice read. It is easy to pick it up and flick through it.My son spends hours reading and rereading it. We have similar books that are not opened now that he has this one. This is a great overview of AKC breeds. There are 2 full color photos (not drawings) of the dogs. I refer to this book all the time. It covers the history of the breeds, statistics, temperment,personality, health isuues, and much more. I bought one for me and one for my sister. I highly recommend this book!
