Book Review: Adorable Depiction of Manners for Infants & Toddlers
Summary: 5 Stars

Excuse Me!: A Little Book of Manners

Karen Katz has the gift to bring to life any important subject matter for infants & toddlers. I think Ms. Katz demonstrated the importance of acceptable socialization when she created the narration and illustrations for this book. It is well-known that the purpose of manners are not fully understood until preschool-age, yet younger children can integrate the phrases "Excuse me!" and "Thank you" into their vocabulary when they start to speak, without realizing how these words fit in with their desires. So when the third birthday comes along, they probably can understand the connection between these words and how it relates to getting the reward they want. Ultimately, these responses automatically become part of their normal behavior. In the long run, good manners become a good reflection of the parents. What a nice benefit! Other parents have taken notice of how well my kids have integrated manners into their interaction with them. Their reactions are complementary and humbling. Thank you again, Ms. Katz, for producing another hit with us and my kids!

Book Review: For Children Who've Already Learned Some Manners.... YUCK!
Summary: 2 Stars

I have taught my 18 month old (since he was about 16 months) to say please and thank you. We are working on "excuse me" and "sorry". Our son happily participates in manners throughout the day. I bought this book to re-enforce what we've been teaching. I think this book bombed for us because of either one or all of these: 1) He already knows manners and felt patronized. 2) He was turned off by the words, "No, Thank You", taking to mean- don't say thank you. 3) The pictures of the faces on the children are blown up like balloons- out of proportion. I thought the book was fine, but, he says, "YUCK!", everytime he sees the book and he refuses to let me read it to him. I am taking this to mean any number of things. We can only guess, but whatever the reason is, this book just didn't do it for us.

Book Review: It is okay, but examples aren't perfect
Summary: 3 Stars

I have a 2.5 year old son, and I ended up changing the wording to the story when I read it to him. I was a little disappointed by the examples that were used to teach manners, because my child didn't catch on as to why, for example, he would say "no thank you" when asked if he wanted peas for breakfast. My son would be willing to eat peas for breakfast!
Also, I didn't like the reference that you say thank you to Grandma only when you get an extra special gift. Why couldn't the wording be, when you receive _any_ gift?
I change "when you break your sister's toy" to "when you break your friend's toy" for saying sorry.
Minor issues. It is an "okay" book, but not excellent.

Book Review: Nothing like a toddler who has manners
Summary: 4 Stars

Don't have time to put your darling little one in a dress and pig tails? No problem, there is nothing cuter then a toddler with manners. When my daughter says "Thank you" to waiters, or "Your welcome" to a thank you, or "I bupped mama, suse me." it melts hearts! The most amazing one of all is "Bess you!" when she hears a sneeze. I won't fully credit this book for that, but it is wonderful reinforcement. She loves knowing the answers on the other side of the page. If you are into manners, get this book. There is nothing more precious then a polite toddler. (It doesn't mean they will start listening)

Book Review: Adorable and to the Point!
Summary: 5 Stars

First I must say the price of this book was very reasonable. I find so many children's books to be so grossly overpriced, honestly.
We love this book - the illustrations are so cute and adorable - visually easy for a young child to comprehend and enjoy. The writing is simple, to the point (important with a toddler!) and holds my child's interest. The flaps are a bonus - our son likes to help open them and listens for the answer to such questions like "When you burp, what do you say?" ("Excuse Me!"). I think this is a wonderful first manners book for any baby/toddler.
