Book Reviews of Excuse Me!: A Little Book of MannersBook Review: Super CUTE!! Summary: 5 Stars
My duaghters LOVE this book. When I read it I change the names like "Grandma" to "Nana" or "treat" i read "candy" because that's the term they know best. My oldest who is almost 3, likes to practice her manners and since she got this book as a gift, she uses them more often and correctly. It really shocks strangers when they tell her she's pretty and she says "Thank you!" Or if she hands something to someone and they say Thank you and she says "You're welcome!" The only negative is my husband doesn't like the term "burp" but I think it's OK to use.
Book Review: We LOVE this book! Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter and I have been reading Karen Katz books together since she was able to sit up. This is an excellent addition to our collection! My daughter is now two-and-a-half, and she just LOVES the lift-a-flaps in these books. We have been working on manners, so this book is perfect. After reading these books a few times together, my daughter is able to read it back to me from memory, and she feels so proud when she finishes a book by herself. I highly recommend this and all of the Karen Katz books!!
Book Review: Unfortunately not Good Summary: 3 Stars
This is a book in the adorable Karen Katz- style, but I have to agree with other reviewers who admonished that this book is legitimizing bad behavior. It has the children say "no, thank you" to healthy food and "yes, please" to unhealthy sweets. Though I see, that on part of the author it may be difficult to decide whether to go with the unfortunate reality of things or state an example and advocate the right thing to do - apparently I would have preferred the author to have chosen the latter.
Book Review: Why does she like it? Summary: 4 Stars
My 17 month old loves this book and has memorized all the answers. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it starts with 'Mommy says "Do you want peas for Breakfast?" You say "No, Thank you!" - I don't like this pg as I don't want her to learn to say 'No' to food (eventhough it's peas for bf) and currently her association of the word Thank you is when she recieves something ( I guess an older child will be able to distinguish). Besides, that page the rest is great.
Book Review: Great for a two year old Summary: 5 Stars
This is an adorable book. The fact that it teaches manners is an added bonus. To me, the importance is that my two year old granddaughter can "read" it herself. At first I thought she could just give me the answers to the questions and that was cute enough. But then I overheard her "reading" it to her baby doll. What great self confidence this builds in a toddler. It is the best time to start building self esteem and making a child feel "smart".
