Book Reviews of Fablehaven: Secrets of the Dragon SanctuaryBook Review: Did not disappoint... much :-) Summary: 5 Stars
SPOILER ALERT! If you haven't read the book yet, watch for spoilers in some of these reviews. I recommend reading the book before the reviews, otherwise you won't get the true effect of the last few chapters.
I was unable to put this book down. My family and I have been anxiously awaiting this one, so we bought it (and I read it) the day it came out. I wasn't disappointed at all with the action, suspense, and adventure in this story. It truly lived up to the Fablehaven reputation. And I enjoyed the character development throughout. Great job, Brandon Mull!
I will say that I was a bit shocked--and disappointed--to see what became of Gavin. Although there were clues throughout the last book, and I initially suspected as much after reading Grip of the Shadow Plague, I really came to like Gavin in Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary. I became attached to his character--and was so sad for Kendra when everything played out in the last few chapters. Also, I wasn't super keen on Raxtus. Not sure why, but he seemed forced or out of place. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it was very minor.
I thouroughly enjoyed the book, though, and will probably read it again soon. I can't wait for the final installment!
Book Review: BEST IN SERIES SO FAR Summary: 5 Stars
******NO SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW*********
Ok, first off what is it with people that feel they have to ruin the book by putting spoilers in their reviews?!? I purposely waited until I finished reading the book before I checked out the reviews because I KNEW people would try to ruin it for me. I was glad I waited. Anyways...
The 4th installment of the Fablehaven series is hands down my favorite book of the series so far. I bought it the day it came out and just finished it today. I took a while because I didn't want it to end. I could have read it in a day or two if I wanted to finish it that fast. But I'm glad I savored it. The thing I like about Brandon Mulls writing is that there is never a dull chapter. Most books at least start off slow but Mull gets you interested right away. Dare I say he is even more talented that J.K. Rowling?? I still have never read the 4th Harry Potter book because it just was WAY too slow for me in the beginning. I have never had that problem with any of the Fablehaven books.
I STRONGLY recommend this series to anyone looking for a fantastic fantasy adventure series. READ IT! You will not regret it. :)
Book Review: Best book in the series!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is fabulous. Mr. Mull progresses spendidly in his writing and you are cheering for Kendra and Seth the whole time. If you haven't begun the series his approach to the characters has been to start with two diametrically opposed siblings - the timid book smart responsible older sister and the reckless courageous impulsive younger brother - and bring them to an understanding of the strengths that can be found in the other's approach. So Kendra learns courage and Seth learns discipline but they both remain truly who they are but more mature and rational. Great characters abound throughout the book and the setting is fantastic but believable.
The arc of the story so far might seem formulaic but the twists are not as you expect so what you think of as being a predictable outcome is in fact not where the story is going, but once it gets there you don't feel misled just shocked. He does a really nice job making the twists and turns both believable and fast moving.
Great series, I can highly recommend it.
Book Review: Best Yet of the Fablehaven Series Summary: 5 Stars
From the first page of the first book, I knew I would forever be a Brandon Mull fan, but in his fourth book, FABLEHAVEN Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary, Mull has outdone himself. On edge every minute, you are caught up in a whirlwind of action, constantly breathing in, "Oh, no!" and then immediately punching the sky with your fist, screaming, "Yes!"
Heroine Kendra takes a shocking turn in the second chapter, leaving Seth to mourn as he fends for himself in a magical world which becomes more challenging as he settles into understanding his own unusual powers. Grandma Sorenson chides him as only a grandmother can when she tells him, "You shouldn't roughhouse with satyrs."
If you haven't yet started on the FABLEHAVEN series, now is a great time, because you can read the first three before the fourth is released in a couple of weeks.
Highly recommended for lovers of Harry Potter, boys ages 8 to 88, and girls of all ages, especially grandparents, as they play key roles in this wonderful collection.
Book Review: Super Exciting! Summary: 5 Stars
I thought this book was really exciting. It wasn't as good as the other Fablehaven books, but it was still better than most other books.
Kendra and Seth are back again, in a dire situation. The Society of the Evening Star has the Oculus, an artifact from a preserve in Brazil. That makes the Society even closer to their goal- opening the Zynx and unleashing all of the evil demons that live there. Kendra, being able to read fairy language, reads a message left behind by Patton Burgess that shows how to get the key to open yet another artifact. So Kendra, Warren, Mara (from the 3rd book), Tanu, Trask (a new character), Dougan (from the 3rd book), Gavin (also from the 3rd book), and Seth (who stowed away), journeyed to the inhospitable dragon sanctuary of Wyrmroost. There, secrets about Gavin are revealed and people are lost.
I highly recommend reading this book; although not the best of the Fablehaven books, I enjoyed reading it and I think you would too.
