Book Reviews of Family Tree

Book Review: Minus two stars
Summary: 1 Stars

This book was written with a truly unlikely premise. It's about families who are shocked that there's mixed blood among them. Gimme a break, humans haven't been around for thousands of years without mating with "other" paramours. People next door, people in another tribe etc.

And for you religious nuts, we're all related anyway, aren't we? The Adam and Eve story comes to mind. So then, why the shock, nobody can be pure anything.

I was surprised to see some good reviews for this book. Surely you jest.

Book Review: excellent genetic mystery
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the first book I have read by Delinsky and found it so intriguing I could hardly put it down. I think that it would make a terrific movie. The twist near the end of realizing who was the baby's great-great aunt made a very touching scene. Eaton's dilemma about his book was not finalized which was disappointing to me, but I can still heartily recommend this title. As a Caucasion to me it seems that the snobbishness that can occur in a "lily-white" family or community was well portrayed.

Book Review: Not very engrossing and easy to lose interest
Summary: 2 Stars

This really sounded like a good concept. Interesting plot, etc. However, I found this book to be borderline boring and hard to follow. In fact, I found it to be very self indulgent and the characters unsympathetic.

I could hardly finish the book and found myself wanting to skip ahead pages to get this finished. Despite the fact that they had a newborn, this was ALL they could talk about and seemed like they had discussions with random people. Seemed unrealistic.

Book Review: Excellent
Summary: 4 Stars

Family Tree by Barbara D. is a story of a family that had been torn apart by controversial issues, and by the end of the story had mended its way back together. Family Tree is a heartwarming story, because Delinsky really lets you get to know the characters. The main character, Dana, struggles with coping with her husband's family's issues dealing with Lizzie, the newborn baby whose skin is darker that Hugh's or Dana's. It was an excellent book that I couldn't put down!

Book Review: totally engrossing
Summary: 5 Stars

This was an absolutely spell-binding, enthralling story. Although fiction, the story is very provocative, making the reader seriously question what determines the person you are. How much emphasis do we, as a society, put on genetics and biology, and what is most important in defining our character? This story takes you through several different responses to this question and gives the reader many perspectives. Truly thought provoking and interesting.
