Book Reviews of Famous Dave's Backroads & SidestreetsBook Review: What diet? Summary: 5 Stars
Dieters beware! This cookbook is filled with such ugly words like pork hocks, butter, fudge, heavy whipping cream, etc., so, enter at your own risk. If you never use one recipe from this book the pictures alone are worth the price of the book. Someone in another review stated that you have to use "Dave's" products., however, I've found this not to be so. He has a great BBQ sauce in the front of the book to substitute for his bottled stuff and as another wrote has a few substitutes written in the back of the book. I showed my copy of this book to my father-in-law today and he loves to BBQ. Needless to say I am ordering this book for him today.
Book Review: Another in my top line up. Fantastic book! Summary: 5 Stars
Awesome cookbook. Color photos, (mandatory in my opinion for a cookbook)and Fantastic recipes. There is a spicy & sweet cole slaw recipe and a baked bean recipe that are out of this world. Both have earn me "Best I've ever tasted" comments on numerous occassions. And that is just the side dishes.
Get this book for the real deal in American cooking. Straight ahead, pedal to the metal, low on formality, full on flavor. Should be a mandatory book for every guy in the USA; or for anyone who has to cook for one!
Book Review: Great Eats Summary: 5 Stars
I like my cookbooks. My other favorite cookbooks would be from Paul Prudhomme. This cookbook was very helpful in creating a good BBQ rub and smoking ribs and pork shoulder. I even had to upgrade my smoker. The pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw and homemade sauce is the best sandwich I have ever made. It makes me want to fire up the smoker and get cooking. I have smoked more than I ever have since acquiring this book. Must have for the BBQ smoker in the family!
Book Review: "Don't judge a book by it's cover" Summary: 5 Stars
We've all heard the expression,"don't judge a book by it's cover." This one is an exception. The cover is a work of art, with beautiful nostagic photograps, and what's inside will not disappoint you: a passionate look at the glory of legendary down home American cooking. It's author, a Choctaw/Chippewa Indian is remarkably unique. And his recipes are illustrated in a breathtaking fashion. It's one of those books you'd be proud to give as a gift.
Book Review: "A Superb Addition to Anyone's Kitchen" Summary: 5 Stars
Dave has definitely outdone himself this time. What a fascinating trip to parts of the country most of us have never seen. Fun-lovin' stories about Dave and others ... makes you feel like you've known "Uncle Dave" all your life. Brilliant photographs and neat stories ... Backroads and Sidestreets is on my Christmas list for everyone this year ... should be on yours, too!
