Book Reviews of Fantasy Lover

Book Review: From the classics comes a New classic ...
Summary: 5 Stars

Julian of Macedon was cursed onto a scroll in 149 BC, later it was bound into a book, as a punishment from the Gods for daring to want to be loved. Grace, a sex therapist, was given the book as a birthday present by her best friend. After calling Julian's name 3 times, he appeares to her, to be kept and used for 30 days and nights by his Summoner for her pleasure as a love-slave. Except Grace doesn't want to use him in that way.

Grace saw the man, Julian, when she looked at him. Julian could only face what he thought was his eternal punishment by leaving all traces of his humanity behind. By giving Julian back his dignity as a man, Grace gives the very best of herself to him, as a therapist, but more importantly, as a woman. Julian, in learning to believe that there might be an end to his torment, learns to believe in hope. Together, they both find what the true power of love is.

Sherrilyn Kenyon has written the near perfect book. It is the most marvelous blend of laughter (out loud) and tears (also out loud!), very sensual love scenes (VERY), and absolute gentle tenderness (enough to melt any heart), suspense and resolution. The only reason I say near perfect, is that I wanted the story of Grace and Julian to go on! I cannot wait to see what Ms Kenyon is going to do in the rest of the books in the Dark-Hunter series. This is the freshest, most innovative, telling of the ancient gods and goddesses from the mind and heart of the most talented writer I've read in a very long time. Get this book, read (and re-read) it, love it, and give it a place of honor on your keeper shelf.

Book Review: A keeper
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this book based on what other reviewers said about it and wasn't sorry that I did. I really enjoyed the plot and found it very easy to follow along with, which I like when I am reading a novel. the secondary characters didn't detract from the story in any way but blended in very nicely and added to the story.
I really liked the main characters and I felt so much for poor Julian. I understand why Grace wanted to help him. If it had been me, I would have wanted to help him too instead of just giving in to my desires, no matter HOW cute he was.
Another reviewer pointed out that Julian didn't seem to be that interested in the world around him; I didn't get that impression at all. First of all, until he met Grace, he wasn't even allowed out of the bedroom, and second of all, when he DID go out into the world, he felt very confused and lost by it, and very uncomfortable by all the attention he received.
One reason I couldn't give this book a 5 were that there were TOO many racy scenes for my liking; some explained VERY graphically. Yes, I get that he is a love-slave, but I felt that more time could have been spent on the plot and had more added to it and less time should have been spent describing what they did in the bedroom and bath.
Another reason I can't give this book a 5 is that the ending felt WAY too rushed for me. While I am not a fan of 600-page type novels, I felt that this one COULD HAVE been a LITTLE bit longer.
Other than that, I really liked the book and have read it over and over again. Thuis is a definite keeper for me.

Book Review: Wow! I want one!
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow! I want one! (A Julian that is) I won't repeat the story line since it has been detailed enough; But I will repeat: Wow! What a guy..... I agree with another reviewer that even though he has a tortured past he doesn't whine about it. He does share it with Grace but not in a whining manner. I also like how he's not shy about coming to her defense. I love the tough guys that don't mind showing their muscle at the appropriate time but don't have to prove themselves constantly and don't have to prove their manhood by being jerks to the females in their life. Grace is also a delight (but I don't need one of her, thank you LOL ). She is just too funny trying to deal with the situation. Yes, I realize there were some not too realistic qualities concerning her career, but no one is perfect, & I'd definitely be a little sidetracked if I had my own Julian waiting somewhere for me! Selena was a hoot too..... her opening remark to Grace on page one had me chuckling immediately & set the stage for the book for me. I enjoyed greek mythology in school & this book has me wanting to do a little research on the relationships between the various gods. This book will definitely stay on my small, but growing keepers shelf. I can't wait to read the Dark Hunters series. I hope they have heroines as fun as Grace & heroes as sexy & masculine as Julian. This is my first SK book, but I will definitely be checking out others. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to write reviews & helps me find new enjoyable authors!

Book Review: Absolutely Fabulous!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Fantasy Lover is a definite addition to my keeper shelf. I was completely captivated from the first page to the last. Sherrilyn Kenyon has penned one of the best romance novels I have read in many a year. You will laugh, you will cry and you will never want the story to end.

Julian of Macedon has existed for millenia within the pages of a mysterious book. He is summoned from the book to serve as the ultimate sex slave. Countless women have called him forth, but only for his physical prowess, never caring who Julian really is.

Grace Alexander is a modern day woman who is in the proverbial dating drought. Her eccentric best friend Selena decides that Grace needs a man, and not just any man, she needs Julian of Macedon. Selena presents Grace with the book on her birthday and convinces her to call forth Julian. Of course Grace grudgingly goes along with Selena's plan to humor her friend. Who ever heard of summoning a sex slave from a book, it's crazy.
Much to Graces stunned surprise, it works.

Julian appears, ready to "perform" as all the other summoners have requested. After thousands of years and women, he has come to expect nothing more. But this time it's completely different. Grace actually wants to talk to him, imagine that!

In addition to Grace and Julian, Fantasy Lover is filled with an outstanding array of secondary characters. Ranging from Greek gods and goddesses to street artists of the French quarter.

This is a wonderful story and should not be missed!!!

Book Review: A Sensual Must Read!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I devoured this book in record time and can't rave enough about it. It was often amusing, at times poignant, sometimes intense, and always sensual. I'm surprised my hands weren't singed with the extraordinarily steamy scenes! Grace Alexander and Julian of Macedon were incredibly likeable characters and both had past hurts that needed to be overcome. She is a sex therapist who doesn't much care for the sexual act (after a bad first experience) but has a desperate desire to find love. Julian is a legendary warrior born of Aphrodite who has been cursed to be a love-slave for all eternity. After being cursed since 149 B.C., he finally finds out that there is a way to break the curse but there is a catch. Although there is a sizzling mutual attraction that is hard to deny, Grace refuses to treat Julian as a possession to be used physically, instead treating him with kindness and humanity. Julian having numbed his emotions to avoid further pain finds it hard to resist Grace. Physically she attracts him as no woman ever has, emotionally she lures him with a sensitivity he has never been shown throughout his painful life. Ms. Kenyon has an enviable imagination and does a wonderful job bringing to life Greek mythology with well-known gods and goddesses and interesting tales of harsh Spartan life. These are two characters that have you rooting throughout for them - from their first meeting to the very climactic conclusion. This book is a must read and has earned a spot in my keeper shelf.
