Book Review: Pleasently surprised

I have only made one recipe (chickpea rague), but it was very good and went over well with my meat-and-potatos man. I found the book easy to read (I did not find the font color challenging), and it's quite simple to make subtle ingrediate substitutions. I've used a few of the other recipes as "inspirations" behind other dishes I hadn't ever cosidered before. I would recommend it as I'm not exactly a novice in the the kitchen but definitely need lots of help, especially with meal planning. It just forces me to think outside the "pasta, stir-fry, or chicken" rut after work.Book Review: Fast Food My Way

I really like this book. I sometimes watch Jaques Pepin's show on PBS. He has great ideas on food that would not necessarily come to my mind. The book showcases these ideas very well. He truly makes cooking easy and fast, and the food is of high quality. A good European way of preparing food, which is by and large to my taste. Also, the book displays good photographs and clear recipes, which is all anyone could want. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys food that is not fussy yet delicious. Jacques Pepin uses cooking and food to love people, and it shows in this wonderful and usable book. The recipes consistently reflect simple but important techniques, such as grating the onions rather than chopping them in the "Fridge Soup," or "Instant Vegetable Soup." You can't get much simpler than "Grapefruit Gratinee," yet the flavors meld delightfully.
This book goes on the shelf beside my favorite 3-4 time-tested, proven, yet fun cookbooks. I appreciate Jacque Pepin's contributions to cooking, and so do my family!

This cookbook may not be the all encompassing tome that your grandmother may have used for her home cooking, but it provides the reader with various simple to make recipes nonetheless. The recipes found in this book require few steps from start to finish and use ingredients that you can find at your local market. You could plan a multiple course meal, from appetizer to dessert, and impress your friends and family with minimal effort. The underlying philosophy in this book is that fast food doesn't have to be empty calorie junk food.Book Review: Excellent recipes that a simple and delicious

Excellent recipes with simple ingredients. I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5 because I agree with some of other reviews in that you do need a well-equipped kitchen as well as kitchen skill in order for the food to be "fast food". Therefore, for an amatuer cook like myself, certain recipes WILL take longer, but it is worth the extra time. A lot of the dishes are adaptable so I found I was able to substitute with ingredients that I had in the the fridge. In particular, the chickpea ragout and almond cake with berries are amazing.
