I don't know if I've read too many suspense novels lately, or if I've read too many suspense novels about human trafficking, but this one just hasn't been able to hold my interest for 5-7 pages at a time. Brennan has established herself as a concise, fast-paced juggernaut of trilogies (a la Nora Roberts) that tie up nicely in order to move onto the next sect; however, this second of 3 novels in the FBI series just seems out of place.
Sonia Knight is a 2X survivor of the human trafficking trade, who has dedicated her life to helping victims as an Immigration agent. Dean Hooper is an FBI agent hot on the trail of known trafficker, Xavier Jones. The two join forces and the roller coaster begins. Only this roller coaster slowly chugs up the incline, and the downward drop is anticlimactic and somewhat of a disappointment.
I haven't given up on Brennan, and will definitely give the end of this trilogy the attention it deserves. I just hope it's a more thrilling adventure than this one's been.
