Book Reviews of Fear and Trembling (Penguin Classics)Book Review: Sacrifice or Murder? Summary: 5 Stars
I had to re-read this book three times to fully understand the true nature of the story. I came to understand that Abraham had to be considered a murderer in order to TRULY sacrifice Isaac...for what is easily done (ie not a murder) cannot be truly a sacrifice. Even if this book is a bit tough to get through at first, and the concepts seem to be about as clear as mud, once you DO get it after the umpteenth read, it's well worth it.
Book Review: The most poetic and influential book, I've ever read Summary: 5 Stars
This book is simply outstanding. Kierkegaard wrote that book in prose, but with such a spirit that you read it as a one big poem, hymne to faith. If you want to get an unforgettable experience read this book. And you'll not be alone in your admiration. Kirkegaard works were so influential, that they led to the birth of "XX century's phylosophy" - existencialism.
Book Review: Still Resonating All These Years Later... Summary: 5 Stars
I'm in accord with the reviewer who marvelled at this book's staying power-- I first read Kierkegaard twenty years ago, and his ideas continue to resonate in my mind today. I'm a far different person now then I was then, but the passion for knowledge never diminishes, and Kierkegaard's philosophy (literally) echoes on. A life-altering book, one of the very few I have read.
Book Review: A great book on faith Summary: 5 Stars
If you've ever felt that life has no meaning, that existence is pointless, then read this book. Kirkegaard shows how faith in an ideal, whether it is god, science, one's profession, or anything else, allows one to lead his or her life with purpose. I found that I could relate Kirkegaard's teachings in this book to Ishiguro's Remains of the Day (which is an awesome book).
Book Review: One of the best book on existential philosophy ever written Summary: 5 Stars
In Fear and Trembling you find the most strenght themes about faith and paradox. It is very human and very divine at the same time. You find the human contraddictions and the openings to the mistery of the faith. The faith knight is a very impressive figure. In this book you have the most paradoxal and fascinating description of Abramo and Isacco story.
