Book Reviews of Feel the Fear . . . and Do It Anyway

Book Review: Say "boo" to your fears
Summary: 4 Stars

For me, the title does indeed say it all, but the idea was new to me. Jeffers turns fear on its head. She says forget about avoiding fears or trying to eliminate them. Instead, accept that fears are a part of daily life, accept them and then, per the title, just do it anyway. No, this is probably not a cure-all for major phobias, but for the minor daily fears and worries, it really works. I can certainly agree with some of the low-raters that 240 pages is a bit over-fluffed with self-help jargon and a spirituality that may seem superficial. So skim, and skip what you don't find helpful. But don't be afraid to take a bit of time, to buy or borrow this book, and just read it. It is a truly quick way to shut up the internal worry chatterbox, say "boo!" to your fears, and enjoy a lot more of life.

Book Review: Feel the fear and do it anyway
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a very direct and simple book written for those of us who fear the unknown, whether it's fear of heights, fear of public speaking or any other fears that we all face. I loved it because mine was fear of speaking in front of large groups of people and half way through the book I did my first presentation, standing up, in front of 30 people and did fantastic. I didn't doubt myself and went into it knowing that it was all the fear that I had created in my own mind over the years. I am so excited that I can't wait for the next presentation. It gave me a wonderful rush and a whole new way of communicating with people. I got to build a little self confidence in the process. For me this was the first time that I used tools that worked.

Book Review: Everyone feels fear - the solution is to face it!
Summary: 5 Stars

This may be one of my all time favorite self-development book. The title says it all "Feel the Fear... and Do It Anyway". Well that's what I thought until I read the pages. Susan Jeffers approaches the subject of fear in a thought out and practical way, and offers easy to implement solutions that reduce fear and spur action.

Book Review: A simple introduction to the concepts of Buddhism
Summary: 4 Stars

I initially picked this book out of a list of references in some material about shyness and dealing with it. I figured the book to be about facing fears and anxieties and dealing with them, particularly in terms of self confidence and self esteem. It does address those issues, but it also addresses many other aspects of life with varying degrees of relation to fear. I enjoyed the book and at its recommendation went on to some materials about meditation and from there materials about Buddhism. While I was reading the introductory Buddhism materials the number of things in common between the two were stunning. I don't recall this book ever addressing it specifically, but this could easily be a Buddhism for Dummies kind of book.

Book Review: Helpful!
Summary: 5 Stars

Now I know why I've heard this book recommended by so many friends! I am so glad I finally took the time to read it. I also know why my friends didn't give me their copies, it is worth a re-read! I can already tell this will be a friend I will refer to over time.

It is comforting and motivating at the same time.

I appreciate Dr. Jeffer's warmth during times of such scorn and cynicism. It's refreshing.

I highly recommend! And for perspective, I am a happily married woman with a great job. I just wanted a little push. That's what I got.

I've done my research, Dr. Jeffers has been married for over 20 years and actually has a life that works. I'll take advise and wisdom from her!
