Book Reviews of Femalia

Book Review: Interesting subject with boring solutions
Summary: 2 Stars

The subject of this book, the female genitalia's close study, could have been handled in various very interesting ways. Unfortunately the photographer did not choose any of the ways I'd find interest in. All the pictures are set in the same way, no playfulness, or any ideas conveyed beyond just plainly showing the subject. I admit, it is a question of taste, one's idea about what photography is for. In my mind these picture are gynecologic equivalents to technical engineering photography, rather than anything to do with art.

Book Review: Beautiful women!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was always nervous about the way my labia looked. Finding this book of pictures in the store helped me immediatly feel better. The drawings in other books are always extreamly difficult to acknowlege as anything that would belong to my body. I have yet to see one drawing that was much more than a bunch of wavey lines put together to form "?"something"?" But this book has actual photos that allowed me to see how wonderfully different all women are. It's just beautifull!

Book Review: Generally of good quality - this is how it is!
Summary: 4 Stars

The only book dedicated to this subject I have seen. Most photographs are of good quality, one or two of the subjects have highlights from flash equipment, which would benefited from softer, or less direct lighting, and one or two, would be much better with a greater depth of field. While I understand the object of the book was to show it, how it is; at least one of the exhibits, photographically speaking, would have benefited from a little "gardening" beforehand.

Book Review: A inviting look at the anatomy of the vulva
Summary: 5 Stars

A fascinating pictorial of female genitalia. Unlike men, we women rarely get to see what's between each other's legs. This book illuminated my understanding of the beauty and rich diversity that is the vulva--source of so much life and pleasure. A slim volume that should become as esential to our understanding of femaleness as the simple hand mirror. But why is there no male companion volume? I eagerly await the sequel which I would entitle "malia"

Book Review: A survey, if you will
Summary: 5 Stars

We see it everywhere in nature: the bifurcated opening. But why is it that the object which should be familiar to us all is one of the most hidden? Well, here it is. Photograph opon photograph of women's external genitalia. Just as no two flowers are alike, no two ladies are alike. Combined with Naked New York and Naked Los Angeles, and a viewing of Yoko Ono's Film "#4 Bottoms", should provide enlightenment with respect to one's body.
