Book Reviews of First Day JittersBook Review: I read it on the first day of school... Summary: 5 Stars
As a brand-new teacher (first grade), I thought this would be a great icebreaker and nerve-soother to read to my kids on the first day of school. None of them expected the surprise ending. The book helped both my criers and the rest of the class -- I talked to the criers about jitters, and how I had them, and how most everyone has them on the first day of school. I was able to use the book as an example to those better-adjusted kids, explaining that some people have worse first-day jitters than others. It was a great book to ease the kids into school again!
Book Review: My 4 1/2 year old's new favorite book! Summary: 5 Stars
My son loved this book the first time I read it; he just finished his 1st year of pre-school and since he's an only child, he had a challenging time getting used to school and lots of kids all in one room! They changed the location of his school starting in the fall, so this was a timely book, as he won't be in the same building, and many of his new friends will be going elsewhere, thus he will have to look at new faces once again. This book has a great ending that made us laugh. I recommend the book highly.
Book Review: My 5 yr old pre-K laughed out loud - loved it Summary: 5 Stars
My 5 yr old son, who is very excited about starting kindergarten in few months, was thoroughly amused and laughed out loud at the surprise ending when I first read this book to him. It's now one of our favorites. Even though he's not fearful of starting school, I think it helped him to see that teachers and grown-ups have feelings and anxieties, just like kids. (FWIW, my 4 yr old didn't "get it", probably just a little too young for this level of humor.) Recommended.
Book Review: Are You Ever Scared The First Day Of School? Summary: 5 Stars
How would you manage a whole new class every year? In First Day Jitters, by Julie Dannenberg it happens. It's about a person who doesn't want to go to school. She wonders "Will they like me?" You find out. I liked this because it was a surprising book. I also liked it because it wasn't obvious what the surprise was. You know its not only kids that are scared. Find out the surprising ending, you never know what you might discover.
Book Review: Great for Middle/High School Kids Too!! Summary: 5 Stars
I was so impressed with this book and its ending that I am going to read it to my 8th graders this year on the first day of school. ALL students like to be read to - even the older ones. I teach math and science but we still take time to read and write every single day (and usually NOT about math or science!). The wonderfully colorful and engaging illustrations don't give away the ending before the last page! Highly recommended!
