Book Reviews of First FamilyBook Review: It is, what it is. Summary: 4 Stars
I have read all of David Baldacci's books; and yes, some are better than others. I don't think that First Family was his best book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like the characters of Sean and Michelle and hope to see them again in future adventures. The "all charm but can't keep his pants zipped" President and his manipulative, powerful first lady were very believable (due to our own country's past history). Sam Quarry was a stereotypical redneck and somewhat extreme example of how some picture Southerners. Since I am from MS / AL, Sam was insulting, but plausible. The story line was, at times, stretching the reader's acceptance; but that is one of the appeals of Baldacci's writing. He pushes the believability factor to the absolute limit and then just a little beyond. But after all, that's why I am reading, for the entertainment factor. It's not supposed to be anything more. I'm anxiously awaiting his next book.
Book Review: Audio Summary: 5 Stars
First Family is an excellent read. It took me several pages to get really involved, but by the 2nd chapter, I was hooked. David Baldacci comes through again with another gripping thriller. Fans will be glad to see Sean and Michelle. There are many threads to this story. Baldacci successfully weaves them together to produce a best seller.
The President's niece was kidnapped. Bypassing the FBI, the First Lady requests Sean King and Michelle Maxwell to find her niece.
When Michelle's mother died, she suspected her father of murdering her.
Many years ago a man's daughter died, and he wants revenge.
I'm reviewing the unabridged audio book. At first, the narrator's voice didn't fit. However, the longer I listened the better it sounded. This is an excellent read. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend The First Family.
Book Review: Is this the end of the series? Summary: 3 Stars
First Family is an entertaining Thriller but a predictable one. Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are back trying to find the niece of The President of the United States. Their trail leads to shady dealings, questionable motives and a secret that the First Lady will do anything to keep. (You'll figure it out within the first hundred pages) Baldacci pulls out all the stops as usual in this latest addition to the King/Maxwell series. He also wraps up some loose ends from the previous book, Simple Genius. It's highly entertaining with one good twist at the end. The problem lies within the characters. I've never found them as engaging or interesting as The Camel Club. King never felt fully developed and Maxwell's past takes up to much of the book. By the end, everything seems wrapped up so Baldacci could move on to hopefully, the follow up to 2008's excellent, The Whole Truth.- BobsViews
Book Review: This is a wonderful author. Summary: 5 Stars
My mystery book club chose this book to read for March. Everyone in the book club really liked the book. I have read 3 books in this series by the author, the series with Sean and Michelle who are very lively and likeable characters who you can definitely relate to. David Baldacci is now one of my favorite authors and I am a big fan of mysteries. His books are very well written with lots of information about the government agencies he is writing about. He makes you want to turn one chapter after another and then it is the middle of the night and you are still reading, to see what is going to happen next. Thanks for him for writing such a wonderful mystery book for my whole book club to enjoy. Really, most of the time it is about 1/2 and 1/2 with people who like and don't like the book we choose but this month, it was a great and definite that everyone liked it a lot.
Book Review: About this book Summary: 3 Stars
I can understand that some customers might be upset about the price, or other aspects of aquiring this book, but too many complained about those things and gave the book one star based on absolutely nothing to do with the book itself.
That said, David Baldacci has always put a great deal of effort into his plots, and this book, "First Family" is no different. What is disappointing is that it isn't even in the same class as his previous novels. The effort, and the research is obviously there, but the story falls way short of anything compelling, and the conclusion lacks even the simplest ability to suspend belief - it is too far off the reality chart to be acceptable.
Baldacci fans will find things to enjoy in this book, but anyone reading this book as their introduction to this author can't help but find it disappointing.
